Is something wrong with Randa?

Again, Adam Dunn with absolutely no protection. It's amazing that he's doing as well as he is.

I just look at this team, see Ramirez starting, and think to myself--why can't they do better than that? I mean, are they even trying to improve themselves? The Reds have so many offensive players that could have been converted into pitching by this point. It's ridiculous. Inert doesn't begin to describe this team's worldview.

Any good innings from Lizard today are unexpected. He didn't do well in NL earlier in the year, Didn't do that great at AAA.

He was brought up because he's on the 40 man roster and could easily be moved up. I'd criticize DanO's promotion of Lizard for the emergency start, but I don't know what other starter was more ready.

Overall Booker is the guy who should come up, but he's not a starter.

* Ramirez: 16.2 IP, 5 HR, 1 HR every 3.33 IP.
* Milton: 93.2 IP, 27 HR, 1 HR every 3.47 IP.

Look out Luke Hudson, high starter ERA is on the line today (after 1 inn. today)...

God, I would love it if Sean Casey never puts on a Reds uniform again. Rueter is having serious command problems through the first two innings, and he goes up hacking at the first pitch.

Never have I seen a .300 hitter with a worse plate approach than Sean Casey. It is almost as if he goes up there with no idea what he's doing and just intent on swinging at whatever he thinks he can handle.

I'm almost with you CE. He has very little plate discipline these days. He rarely does anything but hit the ball on the ground and it's almost always to the right side, so he is easily defensed. I hate I feel this way about him, but I do.

In the meantime, this game is getting ugly fast. I would rather have had a committee of relievers pitch this game 2 iinnings at a time than this.

According to Lancaster, even though there is now a vacancy on the 40-man roster and the Reds are going to bring a pitcher north, they are going to ONCE AGAIN pass over Chris Booker and purchase the contract, instead, Jason Standridge.

Standridge, you might guess, is a former Texas Ranger who was DFA'd recently. Lancester said that DannO, when questioned on the reason for Booker's continued stay in AAA, replied "It goes beyond numbers."

The same thing was said about Harang when we got him.

Just sayin'.

Harang was (and is) a big guy with a large frame. He was always projected to develop into a strong-stamina starter that should be able to regularly go 6-7 IP per start. The fact that he's developed exceptional command of his fastball and breaking ball at his size have allowed him to look dominant at times.

This isn't an exact science, but Harang at least had some phsyical tools that allowed him to potentially exceed where others of similar skill level might fail.

I know ther was really not that much mention of this but looking at the statistics LaRue was deserving of an all star selection or at worst should be the number 3 guy. I knew all along he wouldn't be picked but in the NL he is an awfully good catcher.
