This is all I ask if Narron wants to drop Dunn against the lefties:

Lopez
Randa
Casey
Griffey
Pena
Dunn
Aurilia
LaRue

Thats it - I still don't like it (Casey third still is the biggest problem) but its better than the crap he throws out there. Everyone say it with me one more time - - Rich Aurilia should never get more at bats in a game than Casey, Griffey, Randa, Pena and Dunn.

WMR
07-08-2005, 08:08 PM
What kind of an asinine argument is it to try and say that you're going to play the lefty-right match-ups while batting Pena, who absolutely DESTROYS lefties, in the SIXTH SPOT???????

Does anyone have the team .OPS/.OBP splits Lefty-Righty?

CTA513

Aurilia should only be batting in a head of the pitcher.

ahh looks like another tasty Reds lineup.

Just what I wanted to see for my first in person Reds game this year Rich Aurilia on the field and Adam Dunn batting seventh.

Jerry Narron really knows how to push a guy's buttons :luvu:

Anyway, I'm off to the game boys and girls. Behave yourselves in the interim.

Id rather have that lineup than the current one... but I would rather see Griffey moved to 3rd, Pena or Dunn 4th & 5th, Casey 6th, Aurilia 7th, Larue 8th.

Is it really that hard to compose a lineup that looks like:

SS Lopez
3B Randa
LF Dunn
CF Griffey
RF Pena
1B Casey
2B Aurilia
C Larue
P

There's simply no reason Dunn should be hitting so low in the order. I don't care if a lefty is on the mound either - Dunn has historically hit lefties very well. This is just nonsense.

I love it when guys with an OBP of .297 bat second.

TRF

in June his OBP was .418.

Hey, I loathe the guy, and his OBP has come back to earth, but you play the hot hand sometimes. He had a good June. They just haven't recognized that he is still Rich Aurilia, and July is looking pretty bleak.

I think they were hoping he would keep it up to increase his trade value.

Anyone watching the Pirates-Mets game?

Cliff Floyd just made Dunn and Pena look like gold glovers. With the Pirates down 5-3 in the 9th and runners on 1st and 2nd, Lawton hit a flyball to left, Floyd lost it in the lights for a second. What happened next was hilarious; he attempted to dive for the ball and it got past him for a two run double to tie the game. In that situation you just worry about keeping the ball in front of you to preserve the lead.

Narron is stupid. Fire him.

Folks, it has to do with the fact that Narron would like to use Weathers to pitch more than one inning, without having to worry about him coming to the plate. Peņa's spot in the order would be the ninth one to bat next inning. So he made the double-switch, with Romano (who had pinch-hit for Ortiz) staying in the game.

My point is that the double-switch is a strategy. It wasn't made just because they wanted to get Romano in and take Peņa out. Nor was it made because the Reds management thinks the club is better with Romano than it is with Peņa. It was made because they wanted to move the pitcher's batting slot as far away from being at bat as possible.

You're right, but it gripes a lot of people to keep seeing Jason in the game and replacing much better players. In fact, I venture to guess that there a lot of better players in AAA (I can think of one in particular) who should be up with the big club who are constantly overlooked because of O'Brien's fascination with Romano and other Texas Ranger players. I say Texas needs DanO. We'll sell him cheap.

The conditions of the game changed. I am sure that the lefty-hitting Cruz pinch-hitting for the righty-hitting Romano was an expected move, as a right-handed pitcher was throwing for the D-Backs. (Remember, a lefty was pitching when Romano pinch-hit for Ortiz. If a righty had been throwing for the D-Backs at that time, it may well could have been Cruz who would have pinch-hit for Ortiz, then stayed in as part of the double-switch.)

As for Weathers, I probably would have stayed with him, but after the Reds got the lead they evidently decided that they would prefer to have the lefty Mercker in to pitch, since Counsell (and possibly Gonzalez) would be hitting--and Mercker is better when he starts an inning.
