View Full Version : Game Thread 7-15 Reds vs Rockies (Same old)

Buckeye33
07-15-2005, 06:00 PM
Rockies:

1. Sullivan CF
2. Miles 2B
3. Helton 1B
4. Atkins 3B
5. Byrnes LF
6. Piedra RF
7. Gonzalez SS
8. Ardoin C
9. Jennings P

Reds

1. Lopez SS
2. Aurilia 2B
3. Casey 1B
4. Griffey CF
5. Randa 3B
6. Dunn LF
7. Pena RF
8. LaRue C
9. Harang P

The Rockies lineup is almost as bad as the Reds Sept 2002 lineups.

Here's to a win!

Two of our best hitters batting 6th and 7th again. Hell, why not bat Lopez 8th while you're at it?

I don't see Aurilia being moved out of the 2 hole until he is traded. It would be amazing if we could get a legitimate prospect for him.

Two of our worst hitters batting 2nd and 3rd too. :bang:

I do think I've finally found O'Brien and Narron's strategy with this, though. They've calculated thus far that the typical first inning with this lineup will produce a scenario of ...

Lopez singles
Aurilia pops out
Casey grounds into a Casey, ending the inning.

Now here's the kicker: their strategy is then to lead off with Griffey in the second inning, and hammer in some runs with the true meat of the order! Get some guys on, bring some power to the plate, have the pitcher in there to give up an out in order to move runners over, then have Lopez at the back end cleaning up any leftovers. Finally, Aurilia and Casey are back up to the plate after the rest of the lineup has done the damage.

;)

I think they are shining up Aurilia and Casey for a trade, which means protect them and get them ABs.

Wait did I say think, I meant really, really, really hope.

Harang tosses a gem in Reds' win
By Anthony Castrovince / MLB.com

CINCINNATI -- Perhaps the All-Star break did Aaron Harang a little good.
The right-handed Harang was stellar in seven innings pitched against the Rockies on Friday night, and that outing spurred the Reds to a 4-3 win in front of 21,116 at Great American Ball Park.

Harang had been stellar in April and May of this season, but he went 0-6 with a 5.91 ERA over his last seven starts in June and July. This outing put an end to that rough stretch.

Harang (5-8) held the Rockies to a mere run on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. In doing so, he notched his first win since May 30.

As has been the case for much of this season, Harang didn't get much run support from his teammates, who were locked up tight by right-hander Jason Jennings (5-9). But Harang didn't need much help with the way he was pitching. All he needed was for Ken Griffey Jr. to break up a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the sixth.

As if Griffey's heroics in the plate weren't enough, his perfect throw from center field to throw out Eddy Garabito at home ended the eighth inning, as well as the Rockies' best chance to tie the game back up. And when Adam Dunn cranked out a two-run homer off Bobby Seay in the bottom of the inning, he sealed the win for the Reds. They needed that shot, because David Weathers went on to give up a two-run home run to Jorge Piedra in the ninth.

So FCB, how about Ortiz, Pena, and Olmedo for Jennings?

Ortiz has negative trade value--a team wouldn't take the guy for free. Pena, Olmedo, and an arm of some upside might do it.

Agreed, but I saw Olmedo as erasing that negative value, so that this deal is essentially Pena for Jennings. The rockies have nothing to lose by trying Ortiz in Coors, and if he somehow can pitch, he is signed for next season. If he can not, he can be bought out or released, and they have a stud outfielder for their troubles.

Pena in Coors would actually be similar to Preston Wilson's 2003, but with likely a higher SLG. probably a .350 OB, maybe a tick higher, and a fairly monstrous SLG.. something like .590 - .640. These would be Coors numbers, and his road number of course would be lower, but his learning curv still has yet to be determined.

Rcovery from Coors for a pitcher is two years. Look at Hampton. I swear it's worse than a sjoulder injury. I might do Pena for Jennings straight up, but I don't add anything to that deal.
