Put Randa in instead of Aurilia and you'd have the best lineup the Reds could run out on the field. But we know Rich needs to play 5-6 days a week :thumbdown

Welcome back Austin, you're hitting 4 hole btw.

Especially interesting since Casey's 11 for 30 lifetime against Maddux and Dunn is 4 for 21. Pena, surprisingly (to me) is 4 for 9 lifetime against the Professor.

Austin's OPS is 813 against Maddux.

Just sayin'.You beat me to it, Chip. Heck, I'm just glad that Casey is MIA for the afternoon :D I would like to see what a lineup with our "four" outfielders can do vs. Maddux

Reds Fanatic

Career vs. Maddux several of the Reds hit Maddux well
Griffey .471 BA with 2 home runs
Pena .444 BA with 2 home runs
Valentin .600 BA with 1 home run
Kearns .313 BA with 1 home run
Lopez .400 BA
Dunn has a .190 BA but has hit 3 home runs against Maddux

Just sayin'.
Before Austin was sent down he was OPSing around 700 (IIRC), and he would have taken a called 3rd strike against Danny Graves (yeah I know, like Danny could ever throw 3 stikes).

We'll see what young Austin has learned from his exile.

Day game after night game, not surprised that a couple of regulars got the day off. With Freel and Kearns back, we can rest a regular and still start a major-league ballplayer. Imagine that.

Plus they are in the middle of a 17 game in a row stretch, aren't they? I would guess that even though they just had a break with the AS game, Narron will give almost everyone a day off sometime in the next week.

Despite the denials, I have to wonder if Kearns is being showcased.

He never had trouble throwing them. It's just that they're always being hit before he ever has a chance to throw three.

He's hitting over .300 with something like 8 homers and 35 RBI. I'm not sure on those numbers because I don't have them in front of me, but I think they're close.

Look at his numbers since coming off the DL.

He's hitting over .300 with something like 8 homers and 35 RBI. I'm not sure on those numbers because I don't have them in front of me, but I think they're close.

He's played a very good second base too.

Yes, that was part of my point. Miley/Narron/DanO think he's better than he is. But that's not Aurilla's fault. Just like it's not Dunn's fault that he's been hitting 6th most of the season (and thus doesn't have the gaudy RBI totals Marty wants to see).

I agree, it's a problem that he's taking playing time from Freel/Lopez..
But that's part of a bigger problem -- Miley, DanO, and Narron.

If we had competence running this club, this and many other issues wouldn't be a problem :)

RA has far exceeded all my preseason expectations for him. I have to hestitantly give DanO a gold star for signing him. Although I reserve the right to take it away if I get proof that DanO promised him a starting job (which I suspect).

Exactly. This is where OPS is not the end-all-be-all that some like it to be. People absolutely rip Rich Aurilia apart but he has put up above average stats for second basemen at a very low salary. He's also played very well defensively at second.

Nobody cares about these things because his OPS is low.
