I thought Olmedo was going to start a game sometime? If you're going to sit Freel, why not play Olmedo?

Gainesville Red
07-30-2005, 09:14 PM
I don't care who you are, if you're in my clubhouse acting the way Aurillia is acting, you don't play. Especialy over somebody like Freel, who seems to have the perfect ballplayer attitude. Freel seems like a spark plug when he's in there, he just makes things happen that don't happen when he's not playing.

There is a reasoning for sitting Freel from time to time. As hard as he plays, putting him out there every day would risk losing him for a period of time.

I can understand it....but if they can trade Aurilia, it would give Olmedo some playing time

I agree. I just don't see much use in playing Rich Aurilia. He's not gonna be here next year, Reds aren't going anywhere this year. You know what you've got in Freel, if he needs a day off see what you've got in Olmedo. Late in the game when Olmedo get's his pinch hit duty, give that to Aurilia. Does anyone know how Aurilia gets along with the team?

Oh my, he's a hunk of burning love.

Adam, not DanO.

Anyway, after a couple other segments, they finally got to the chat with Adam. He's glad he hit the ball hard last night (so are we Adam). He talked a little about how he got EdE's HR ball and how he held up the game and felt like an idiot.

DanO told him that unless something unbelievable happens in the next few hours, he'll stay a Red. And he's happy about that. And so am I.

In the next 60 games he wants to end on a positive note and have something to build on next season.

And then he said he digs old fat women. Really.

Why would O'Brien specifically pull Dunn aside to tell him he isn't going to be traded? (Not that the news is surprising)

Why didn't he pull Kearns/Pena and others aside?

This close to the deadline seems like an odd time for O'Brien to tell him that. Maybe he told him other stuff that he wouldn't let Adam tell us, such that his good friend Casey might be crying tomorrow as he says bye to the team. ;)

Is Jerry Narron a man?

I mean does he not have the cajones....as a man or as the manager of this team to tell RA....that he is not a starter anymore?

I DO NOT care that he is 8 for 26 with 1 HR against Astacio during his career.......anyone who whines like he does should not be starting on this team. I cannot believe anyone can tolerate this person in that clubhouse.....is there any clubhouse big enough for his ego?
Was he shortchanged somewhere in life that he feels he must push his way into getting what he wants?

Well Dan Hoard asked him (Adam) if he wanted to make up some rumors of his own and he said he didn't need to cause there were enough floating around already. So there must be some somewhere. Man these guys kill me. Welsh and Hoard going on about how this offense really isn't that good. Hoard saying. "Yeah, they've scored 3 or fewer runs in 29 games ths year..." Like it was pathetic or something - out of 103 games? That's what? About 28% of the time? I guess that would mean they score 4 or more 72% of the time? Is that pathetic? And how many of those 3 or less games were in the portion of the schedule where around the time of Miley's demise when nearly everyone was struggling.

Now, at least, there is nothing wrong with this offense. Everytime I listen to these clowns on TV the urges return. Must...not...commit... mayhem...if you'll excuse me now, I have to go and find my Happy Place.

Not that I necessarily care, but I'm curious. Why did Welsh's career only last 8 years? Looks like he was 31 when he retired, and he didn't have totally horrible numbers in his last year ('86, with the Reds). I'm guessing some sort of arm trouble, but I don't know. Just thinking about it.

Nope, back in the 80's those were pretty bad numbers.

4.45 career ERA doesn't shock me even then as among the worst in the league. The thing that I'm wondering about is that if he was too crappy to continue, then you'd imagine that he would make some more appearances in the minors post-1986. But he spent the entire year with the Reds and went 6-9 with a 4.78 ERA. And that was it. Logic says that he wouldn't just up and quit, but maybe he'd toil in the minor leagues for another year or so.

Or maybe I'm wrong. It's been known to happen.
