By the way, switch Pena and Casey, and thats one fine looking lineup. As it is, it ain't too bad.

Quick Poll:
How many runs will Ortiz give up in his "unlucky" 1st inning?
Then how many innings will he go before giving up another run?

Remember when the reds were down like 6-0 in the 1st to Tampa and Keisler came in and was lights out and we came back and won it? This game is still in reach I suppose, but damn. As soon as we play good competition we suddenly look like the Padres or Dodgers..

Aronchis

The Reds can easily DFA Ramon. Ramon is the type of pitcher, either he overcomes his early inning struggles or he gets bombed. Most of the time, he overcomes them to go 6 innings, but he will have these start 2-3 times a month were he gets the living crap beat out of him early in the game.

With Germano needing experience on the major league level, I suspect he is as good as Ortiz now, maybe better. Germano is also 1/2 of the Randa deal so DanO doesn't have a problem trying to polish him up for next season.

Tony Cloninger

In my opinion, we are better off in the long run if Ortiz pitches horribly the rest of the season. If he pitches well, then O'Brien has an excuse to resign him.

Considering his salary figure, I see no reason at all for the Reds to pick up the option for him, virtually no matter how he pitches the last couple of months.

I don't see a place for him next year if they can avoid it. Milton, Harang and Claussen are higher in the rotation plans than Ortiz. Surely they can acquire at least one better rotation candidate and there are several younger arms in the minors I'd rather see with the opportunity for the last spot. Ortiz makes too much to be a bullpen arm either.

Please tell me though that the option is not a mutual one where he can decide to return on his own.

OSURedLeg
08-02-2005, 07:46 PM

Neither would I, but I sure wouldn't mind getting a Franceour type player back for Griffey.. :P The kid is going to be awesome. He works too hard and has way too much makeup. He's got team leader written all over him.

Reds aren't going to catch up by swinging at balls way out of the strike zone. That happens when you force your sluggers to press during every at bat after watching your pitcher put the ball on t's for the opponent.

They should be more diciplined but I can imagine how frustrating that is.

EE kept on guessing fastball, but it never came. Pena should have gone oppo field on that first pitch fastball, that is why I worry about his legs/bat speed. He couldn't catch up to it.Pena swung and missed a first pitch slider.

Why is it that every time the Reds play the Braves only the Braves seem to be prepared, ready, studied up?

The Reds just look constantly rocked back on their heels against the Braves.

EE's holes are showing. Mini-Pena in that AB.

But atleast EE did flash solid knowledge of the strikezone in the minors(2005-BB/8.8 AB, Career-10.8) vs Pena(13.6 minors, majors-16.8).

was that welsh slammin DO
LOL

I've been quiet tonight because I used up all my weekly post allotments over the weekend, but I gotta say this...one of the reasons for lack of attendance at these games has to be the broadcast crews.

Twice tonight, Welsh has used the talent of one of the opposition players to give a back handed complement to the home team. Just awhile ago, Lopez made a good play. Of course, Welsh was commenting on the batter's tremendous arm just before the play (is this the only place in the universe where the home broadcast teams spends so much time praising the opposition?). After Lopez' play, Welsh says, "there's another guy with a pretty good arm--oh not as good as (blanks), but pretty good," once again reminding the local fan base that the home team is inferior.

In having watched baseball from nearly every team over the past five years with Extra Innings, I've never seen this anywhere else. Yes, Scully constantly talks on the Dodger broadcasts and tells interesting tidbits about opposition players, you'll never hear that from him. Welsh just continuously talks. I guess since George is gone the Creeper had to take up the slack of reminding us how good others are?

Sorry for the rant. Back to lurking.
