We should release him. He may have provided some offense for us, but with the comments he's made, I have no respect for him. "I guess I'm stuck here" ?!?!... what an idiot.

That's one reason I like Narron better than Miley. Miley would've probably had Aurilia in there every day after his whining. Narron sticks it back in his face and shows him that he's the boss and he'll make the decisions. Basically telling Rich to shove it, which takes even more balls since Rich is coming off a game where he hit a monster shot. I don't think Miley has those balls. Also, this lineup is much better than anything Miley put together the whole season. Now let's go take this series. :beerme:

"My reaction is short and sweet," said O'Brien. "Throughout July we had no conversations with Griffey or his agent about his 10-and-5 statusdoesn't address the trade

Neither Jr or his agent was asked about waiving his no-trade rights. However, nothing in there is a denial that a trade to send Jr to the White Sox was worked out between the GMs.

I'm calling Shennanigans on Marty Brennaman. He stated that the Reds "inability to play little ball" led them to squander a run-scoring opportunity.

Bull. Even if Harang had gotten a bunt down, Freel and Lopez still couldn't get a base hit to drive runs in. A bunt in that situation was completely irrelevant, given the way the subsequent ABs worked.

Francoeur- Quick bat. Excellent range. Cannon arm.

Needs to develop a discipline skill set pronto or he's going to need to hit .330 to be a really good offensive player. Fine player though.

The thing is that Francoeur can reach anything and hit it with authority. I saw him hit a pitch 3 inches off the ground about 400 feet. He also will go the other way when pitched away. He will need to improve the plate dicipline but he doesn't have to be a walk machine because he can reach so many balls and hit them with authority.

He doesn't have to be a walk machine. The fact that he doesn't really seem to know what they are limits his projectible upside at this point, however.

You're seeing the very very best of Francoeur right now. But that's not the real Jeff Francoeur just as the very very best short-term production from any player isn't who that player really is.

And I'll just chalk up the "...Francoeur can reach anything and hit it with authority" comment to a Braves fan being giddy about having a RF who's actually doing something with the bat (finally) this season. His minor league results haven't demonstrated that he has some unique uncanny ability to do that to the extent you suggest.

Again, fine player, but when the league gets the "book" on him, he projects to have a bit of difficulty adjusting because it doesn't appear that he's ever had a real good grasp on the whole balls and strikes thing.

Just got back from tonight's game. Some observations:

1) Harang looked gassed early. I would have pinch-hit for him after Valentin and Encarnacion led off with back-to-back walks.

2) Weathers also looked gassed. He didn't have much last night, and he didn't have much tonight, either.

3) Standridge and Shackelford looked pretty good. Shack made a mistake to the first batter he faced, but then he settled down after the homer.

4) Casey had a heck of a game!

5) I love Club 4192! Nothing like having an air-conditioned club/bar to go to when it's oppressively hot!

He needs to be pitched inside and backed off the plate more often....he is hacking at everything and hitting it. Weathers was dumb enough to give him something on 0-2....when he should have bounced it or moved him off the plate.
