With Willis pitching, we started out with about a 15% chance of winning. Thanks to these 'shrewd' managing moves--why not bench your two best players?--I'd say that's closer to 1% now. Glad I decided not to go....

And EdE screws up. Rookie mistake. Of course, with this lineup and with the slumps Freel and Lopez are in, it really doesn't make any difference anyway.

I know players need rest, but why do you leave you two best players on the bench just because it's Sunday? Why against a tough pitcher where, just maybe, these "stars" just might make the difference? I really don't understand the "Sunday lineup" phenominon at all.

You're probably right. It's probably a matter of perspective. It's actually been a a couple of years since I listened to the guy.

But I don't know--there's so little uniqueness and quirkiness in today's announcing that doesn't seem forced in some way or over the top. Marty's rube act is kind of refreshing in a weird way. It's hard for me to describe.

Besides, anyone cool enough to do those old Kroger ads where he and Joe grab their pens and say "Autograph time!" is pretty awesome in my book.

If the right handed hitters would do something, this would be a good lineup against Willis. Pena has stopped hitting the long ball. Kearns' numbers are sub-Aurilia. (Funny how everyone loves Kearns, hates Aurilia, yet RA has better numbers accross the board.) Lopez is slumping now, particularly right handed. Freel is slumping. And Aurilia isn't doing much since since being out of the regular lineup.

I agree that it is a mistake to rest Griffey and Dunn against a lefty when the right handed hitters don't hit.

Kearns this year. .238/.308/.416/.724. And his strikeouts to walks are 58 to 20, including his strikeout a few minutes ago.

Players strike out and I'm more interested in the Kearns that came back from Louisville than the one that got sent down.. Aurlia on the other hand interests me not at all.

I don't know if Kearns is better offensively than WMP, but WMP is not hitting either. I think pitchers have adjusted to WMP, not throwing him a lot of fastballs, taking advantage of his bad strike zone judgment. WMP has to learn to adjust or he will wash out.

WMP has the advantage of being younger. WMP's disadvantage is that he is a terrible fielder.

I'm as big a defender of Kearns as any, but I know when it's time for a reckoning, too. Kearns has been awful this year, unacceptably horrid. I really don't think the kid's going to rediscover his ability with the Reds if at all. It was time to cut bait with the kid on July 31, but the Reds hesitated like idiots.

Nope, they didn't. Everything is on freeze with the ownership situation. I don't know why this board constantly doesn't get that. When things are on freeze, they are on freeze. DanO only has authority to trade 2 players. Do we understand now?

I don't care a whit who's giving the orders to trade or not to trade--okay, in your scenario, then I blame Lindner for passing down the "no trade" edict. It's dumb for the immediate future of the franchise and the long-term future. It's just all around dumb to have a "trade freeze" when you've got inventory (Pena and Kearns) rotting on the shelves.

Again, you miss the point. If Lindner does sell his shares this fall, O'brien is most likely fired as GM. Do you want a lameduck GM running the show? That is why Lindner put a freeze on trading for the most part besides other little nuggets.

Be rest assured, if Lindner stays, or when the new GM comes in, there will be some movement this winter. For a guy that already had little value like Kearns, this gives him a chance to rebuild it.

Not if Kearns and WMP bust out of the slump by years end, then their trade value is higher than July 31st.

Or maybe, just Maybe, the Reds FO did listen to offers, and they were crap, and decided against trading for the sake of it. The trade market was horrible this year, maybe teams decided to stand pat, and its not DanO, JA, CL, or anybody elses fault. Just an idea, so you don't get too angry or fed up when you don't know the entire situation. Heck, you may be right and I may be completely off, but settle down, neither of us know for sure.

Maybe. But I put about as much stock in those two coming out of their "slumps" as I did D'Angelo Jimenez. His game went south and if you had two eyes you could see it. I think they're both toast (though Pena's a never-wuz, and Kearns a could have been); they had some value at the deadline (all you had to do was listen to all the glowing things other gms were saying viz Kearns), but if they suck through the end of the year, they're worthless (not below worthless, like Casey, but worthless in terms of bringing pitching in return).
