From the useless stats file...

* The REDS are 10-10 on Sundays.
* The REDS are 4-6 on Sunday games after a Saturday win.

I know somebody posted this a few weeks ago, but how nice is it to see Jr. playing on Sunday afternoons.
The last few years it wasn't even the injuries that got to me so much, but it was how scared Miley and Boone were to play Jr. too much lest he might get hurt.

This sure beats the "Sunday Special" lineups Boone used to throw out there.

I'm actually kind of surprised he's playing today after the loooooong night yesterday.

Luke Hudson in the month of August:

* 4 GS, 23.2 IP, 17 H, 16 K, 10 BB, 11 ER, 4 HRA.
* 3-1 record, 4.18 ERA, 1.14 WHIP.
> Lowest WHIP for a REDS starter this month (just imagine if the walks were more MLB-like).
> REDS starters have thrown 64.9% strikes this month. Luke, 60.2%.

Get this...
* The REDS bullpen has given up 0 earned runs in Luke starts this month!
> 12.1 IP, 10 H, 12 K, 3 BB.

What is the BABIP? I know this is something people were worried about after last season. His being unnaturally low, and that seeming to be something that averages out over time.

Not sure, Hoosier, but seems to be around .235 or so. He seems to be "effectively wild" this month. And seems to avoid the longball (despite giving up 4 in 4 GS) following those walks. 17 hits in 23.2 IP is impressive!

With 2 outs, a runner on second, I'd pitch (carefully) to Dunn too. Casey probably has a better chance to score the runner from 2nd than Dunn.

With 2 outs, the DP's are irrelevant.

Also, Dunn is cold.Walking him could lead to a big inning.

I was scratching my head over Marty's comments too.

What you said, plus... it would be more probable that Adam could give the Reds the lead with one swing of the bat. Sean probably would not.

Obviously, he believes BA is the better stat. Obvious, the Pirates manager has his own ideas.

Casey has a better chance of getting a hit than Dunn does. Any hit would get us the lead.

Two runs? Dunn needs a HR to score 2, Casey needs any extra base hit. Casey actually has a better chance of scoring 1 run, and knocking in 2. Putting Dunn on just made no sense.

I'm a person that doesn't diminish the importance of walks, but feels like sometimes they are too strongly critiqued when judging a player.

That being said, I feel that players who draw a lot of walks typically show a good command of the strike zone, and more times than not, show good patience for their pitches as well as show an ability to lay off bad pitches.

I was saying that you don't need to belittle others, and your post was solely an opinion, just as valid as their posts. My opinion on the matter was I wouldn't have intentionally walked Dunn. I would have pitched him very carefully and tried to make him swing at the pitchers pitch. If he took the walk, so be it, I'd take the chance on Casey.

In short, I would more agree with you - but that doesn't mean I would tell others their opinions were wrong. The intentional walk worked after all. And using words like "no sense at all" isn't phrased as an opinion, its phrased as a fact.

yeah, he doesn't think he's ready but (sigh) we know he'll be given the job next year anyway.

btw Marty EE OPS is .150 higher than Randa's since the trade and he covers more ground.

I don't have access to listen to Marty, just commenting on what Pedro said Marty thinks.

The way baseball should be. There was a couple weeks earlier in the season that it almost felt like it was a chore for me to watch the Reds. This is good baseball. I don't know who's responsible for the pitchers remembering how to pitch, but they need to keep some of it in a bottle for next year.

If we could soundly beat contenders consistently, they wouldn't be contenders.

Every team generally has a worse record against the better teams. It's what makes them better teams.

We are 29-35 against the 9 teams still in contention for a playoff spot. If you included the Cubs, who were, until recently, in wild card contention, we are 36-40.

So, IMO, I would say that we have more or less held our own against the better teams.

But until our pitching improves, we aren't going to consistently beat on the best teams in the league.

I think he bolded Griffey and Casey because they went deep today.
