The answers were Babe Ruth, Harmon Killebrew, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds.

I don't think I've ever heard Marty go off on a player for lack of performance like he did for Encarnacion's first-pitch pop out after LaRue walked on 4 pitches. He should know better than to swing on the first pitch when a pitcher is struggling to find the zone.

Rich Aurilia has below-average wheels for a first baseman, much less a middle infielder. Roseanne Barr on a Segway beats either to first base.

Still a good play, especially to lead off a series. Ensberg will stay even with the bag when Rich is up, and it could result in a gb base hit to LF during the next few games

I wouldn't mind seeing Aurilia dealt by this time tomorrow. But I don't have a problem giving him props while he's still in a Cincy uni. Reds don't beat the Pirates the other night without his 2-out double in the 9th off Mesa. (And they probably get no-hit by Derek Lowe on July 25th, if not for RA's single in the 5th)

Big Klu

yes it was ... you have to bunt the ball to 3rd.

I didn't say it was a great bunt--I said that it wasn't a bad bunt. If the catcher doesn't make an off-balance SS-type throw (a play which frankly I didn't think he could possibly make), then it would have been successful.

I'm sorry but this kind of pitching performance just isn't acceptable. Getting a lead and then having your starter go out and give up 5 runs in about 7 minutes is killer. Especially to the weak-hitting Astros.

This was a game that had to be won if the Reds wanted to win 2 of 3 in Houston, since Reds-killer Roy Oswalt and Andy Pettitte are waiting the next two nights.

I would've lost money on that one ("any ball that Junior reaches, you can bet your money he'll hold onto")

There's nothing like running blindly towards a terrace to make you leery

Griffey flies to CF. Great catch by Taveras(although he did misread the ball). Grande sounded thrilled he did. "He got it!!!!" 1 out.

Wouldn't hurt. Especially if they're planning on watching strike 1 go by, anyway. And a guy like Freel should be laying down 1 per series.

Aurilia isn't Freel, but then you know this. And you're not going to get much of a result asking beer-league speed guys to fake bunt attempts. Smart defensive players laugh at that stuff.

Not the base hit against Lowe

Obviously a career-making hit. But not exactly hit where you think it was.

No, that would be Dunn. I haven't ever seen Adam ground out to 3b. (maybe on a check swing, once)

And yet, Dunn appears to have more Hits to the right of SS than Aurilia this season. Aurilia doesn't actually produce anything when his BIP's go that way, but a bunt attempt makes him scary? But hey, what do I know. I'm just reading the hit charts.

That ball Taveras caught, he misred, spun and had to lunge for it. Junior would've read it better off the bat and made it look more routine

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it

The Reds have gauranteed themselves a winning August.

Consecutive winning months for the first time since April and May of last season

Dunn's last hit was changed from a Double to a Single(with an error enabling him to get to 2B).

Dunn walks to load the bases with 1 out after being behind 0-2. Four straight balls and a GREAT AB by Dunn.

I thought we could do better against Wandy Rodriguez.

Stros have our number this season. I believe that is 4-10. Arggghhhhh!

He throws 1 maybe 2 pitches in the strike zone in an atbat.
The rest he makes you chase to get your self out.

Hes a good pitcher, I wish the Reds had someone that good to close for them.

When do the Stros not have our number? The Reds are totally punked by that team.

You don't see the Astros, the Braves, or the Cards coming out sluggish on the first game of a new road series like you do these Reds. They do it all the time. It's annoying. This team has been utterly flat-footed and un-hungry for the last five years.

Completely subjective opinion here from watching bits and pieces of the last 25 games.

It seems to me that umpires have giving EE rookie balls and strikes calls since he was called up. He continually gets the borderline strikes called against him.

EdE does his best to not show up the ump, but he does step out and have to re-compose himself.

My theory is that umps do this to all rookies and eventually, if they keep their mouth shut and show they belong, they start getting better calls.

Exactly, and I find EdE's composure in reaction to that to be laudable.
