Want to start making bets on how many Reds swing at first pitches?
At least we don't have to worry about Junior doing that. I love the man and I love the way he plays the game, but it drives me absolutely bananas (b-an-an-as) when a pitcher throws 37 straight balls then Junior comes up and swings at the first pitch and pops it up in the infield.

Well, considering that the Reds rank 6th in the entire major leagues in walks, I'd guess that it will be less than most teams. The Reds works pitchers better than pretty much any other team.

I've been waiting for Lopez to hit third. I just don't see him as a leadoff hitter. Freel is far more patient and makes more consistent contact. Lopez can be a good run producer if he hits lower down, like third. I wouldn't mind him hitting sixth either.

Dunn does have decent speed for a big guy, althoughI think he is a bit slower now than he was in 2002 when he stole 19 bases.

The reason I don't want him bunting? He could give the Reds the lead with one swing of that bat.

Dunn has one sac bunt in his career, so I doubt he has the skills to drop a perfect bunt down the 3B line.

On the surface, it seemed unnecessary to leave Harang in that long -- 131 pitches to go 6.2 is a bit of a laboring effort. And my initial reaction is always to be cautious with pitchers. But in context, it's not a big deal, I don't think. We're talking about a veteran, someone who's been taking the ball and going 110-120 on a regular basis all year, and we're talking about a single occurrence. It's neither a pattern of overwork, nor is it way out of line with his established ability. As long as Narron doesn't make a habit of it, it ought not be anything to worry about.

I agree that Harang shouldn't be up around 131 pitches in a September contest between second-division clubs. He's a hoss, but some care in handling would be appropriate.

Though, and I love being able to type this, the guy was off his game tonight and gave the club 6.2 IP of one-run baseball. How cool is that? Seriously, this guy's off nights are better than the on nights of most everyone who's pitched for the franchise this century.

I was thinking not so much an a ball player, but maybe a ball if we're lucky.

My view of tonights game.

I think Dunn was trying to lay down a bunt against the shift in hopes of reaching base and improveing the teams chances to score runs.

Any Manager that would call for Mantle or Dunn to lay down a sac. bunt should be fired on the spot.

Aaron Harang is a Hoss and getting better all the time.

The main problem I see with the offense right now is buying into doing all the little things at the cost of what they do best..... The Big Things that put runs on the board.
