I don't recommend the one I've hung out at some, Bengals Insider. Very crude, bad language, not much moderating. So if someone finds a good one, let me know.

I've browsed around at www.bengalszone.com, but haven't posted there yet. There are a few folks who seem to know what they're talking about, but a few rah rah types as well who talk like the Bengals are the second coming of the '72 Dolphins. It's not a bad place though and as soon as I come up with an appropriate screen name I'll probably show up there on occasion.

Huddles is probably the busiest Bengals board on the Web. I get frustrated by the lack of housekeeping, though. There are often three or four threads on the same subject. Trolling is tolerated more there than at RedsZone, as well. Pretty good site overall, though. It's the only Bengals site I visit.

Well, I've had it with the Bengals Huddle site. Multiple threads (sometimes three or four) on the same subject are left on the board, and trolls are allowed to continue for months on end. Yesterday was the final straw, and I don't plan to go back.

I have dug up three Bengals boards that look promising, based primarily on their appearance, number of members, number of posts, variety of forums, etc. Without taking a lot of time to read all three, I'd like to narrow this list to one, so any input (pro or con) that any of you have on any of these three sites would be appreciated:

BengalsZone (http://forums.bengalszone.com/index.php?)
Go-Bengals (http://forum.go-bengals.com/index.php?&&CODE=autologin&fromreg=1)
Bengals.com (http://boards.bengals.com/forums/index.php?)

Even if you posted in this thread earlier, I'd like to know if you have any further insights.

I never did get the email, but their site is letting me post now. I guess I'm ok. What I like about that site is that they have a separate place for folks who want to trash talk. It keeps a lot of that out of the regular posting areas. I'm not one for trash talking much and I don't care for all of the masked profanity that shows up in some of those kind of posts.

Please, Ochre

Please please please!

I thought bengalszone was okay at first, but even the regular posters there are total moronic trolls.

The last straw was a masked profanity laced diatribe after the Indy loss, by a moderator, no less.

I was one of the first members of that site, but don't dare post frequently because most of them are met with who (expletive) dey, and the like.

Unfortunately, most football sites are like that.

I've been yearning for just one place to go and talk civily about football, and have been unable to find anything.

So please, Ochre...Help us!

Go-Bengals is a good board. It's very active and there are a few "insider" types that tend to be right most of the time. The regulars there are knowledgeable and pretty strongly opinionated. It is the place to be if you absolutely loathe the Steelers. Be forewarned, though, it's not for the young. The language can be pretty rough and you will run across the occasional boobie pic or worse (or better, depending on your pov). I post there quite a bit during the season and have met some good folks from there down at PBS.

I read these boards alot though I don't post much to keep up with the bengals and Reds. I find that if you find a good forum it does much better than the media on keeping you informed about a team. I live in Dallas and spend most of my time posting on a Mavericks forum. I hadn't been to the Bengal in a while and it was gone.

I've visited all the Bengals boards, and couldn't find any without smack talk and profanity being tolerated. The Huddles site was probably the best in terms of civility, but it was very loosely moderated in terms of organization. There would be four threads on the same exact subject going at once, and trolls are tolerated.

I'd really like to see ochre's site make a big splash this season. If everyone who discusses football here will move those posts over there, that can begin to happen.

Bengal fans only get involved when they are winning, I live in dayton and you cant get the Browns on tv but the bengals are always on. So I have always gone to a bar to watch the Browns game. All of the sudden one day its full of fair weather Bengal fans, most of which havn't watched a football game since 1982. It's funny to see a grown man turn to another grown man and say wow Chad Johnsons good but who's this Favre guy on the green team. Browns and Reds in the playoffs I cant wait!

I would never take a small child to a football game. I don't think I will take my son to an NFL game until he's a teenager. I just don't want him to think that the way some people behave at football games is appropriate.

BuckWoody

Yachtzee & Cedric, I agree 100%. Maybe it's a reflection of the violence and emotion being played out on the field or maybe it's an indication of where our society is as a whole. Respect for others is nowhere to be found. Berating and insulting the opposing fans seems to be about as important as what's going on out on the field and all civility is left at the door. The attitude is prevalent at the stadium and in any team message board you come across. It's not just Bengals fans or Browns fans or Steelers fans...it's universal.

You can usually show up at an opposing team's baseball stadium and not have to worry too much about defending yourself from a torrent of profane verbal abuse. At least that has been my experience.

Regardless of the reasons, an NFL game is not the greatest place to take your little ones and that's a shame because it's a great sport and watching an NFL game live is truly a great experience.

Thanks Matt. I've been trying to get into huddles for a couple of days and just figured their server was down.

Judging from the lack of traffic on their Bengals board, this latest snafu might have just killed that site. Serves 'em right for issuing arbitrary bans of Bengals fans who were only responding to Steelers fans trolling. I know it is the NFL Huddles and all, but when 90% of your posts come from fans of one team, you might want to tread lightly when considering actions against that community.
