Now if they can just play like it's 1982, they'll be in business. I find a couple of things interesting about this. One, I think this is the first time a team has worn retro uniforms on a regular basis and also, I would think it's the first time a team has two different color schemes for their uniforms. The current sets are navy and metallic gold while these are royal and yellow gold.

MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers and their fans will turn back the clock every Sunday at Miller Park next season. The team has unveiled "new" uniforms for Sunday home games which, as expected, are recreations of the team's garb from 1978-1993. Blue pinstripes adorn the white jerseys and pants, "BREWERS" is stitched across the chest and the caps feature the popular "ball and glove" logo.

Hall of Famer Robin Yount, the first player enshrined into Cooperstown wearing that cap, helped unveil the new-old look as part of the "Brewers Winter Warm-Up" on Thursday night in the ballpark's .300 Club. Other participants included include Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Uecker, manager Ned Yost, third base coach Dale Sveum, plus current players Bill Hall, Damian Miller, Lyle Overbay, Derrick Turnbow and Matt Wise and former Brewers Jerry Augustine, Jim Gantner, Larry Hisle and Gorman Thomas.

It's a look made famous by the power-hitting Brewers teams of the late 1970s and early 1980s featuring future Hall of Famers Yount (the team's new bench coach), Paul Molitor, Rollie Fingers and Don Sutton. The logo, a lowercase "m" and "b" arranged in the shape of a baseball glove, has remained popular in Milwaukee and in recent years has shown up in ballpark promotions.
One of those promotions in 2005 was essentially served as a focus group. Fans entering Miller Park were offered a choice between two T-shirts, one with the team's current logo or one with the retro look. Old school won in a landslide.

"There is clearly a strong bond between the current fan base and the teams of the 1980s, and we believe that Sundays will bring a unique atmosphere to Miller Park," Brewers executive vice president of business operations Rick Schlesinger said.

The team hopes the fans will add to that atmosphere, dubbed "Retro Sundays." Music and entertainment from the era will be featured, and fans are encouraged to make their own fashion statements.

The team will host Brewers legends from the 1980s, who will participate in events such as autograph sessions and game broadcasts. Several of the Sunday games will also include fan promotional giveaways tailored to the era.

A special 20-game ticket package has been designed around "Retro Sundays." With the Retro Sunday Plus plan, fans receive tickets to each of the 13 Sunday afternoon home dates at Miller Park, as well as seven other games. Two of the dates in the package include all-fan giveaways.
The Retro Sunday Plus ticket plan starts at just $160. For ticket information, please contact the Brewers ticket office at (414) 902-4100.

Disagree completely. One of the worst looking unis and the logo is something a 10 year old would draw. Put it back into mothballs.

And I'm sure it doesn't enter into the equation that the Brewer fans who remember that logo's era most fondly are the ones with the highest disposable income and a fondness for buying retro MLB merchandlse for themselves and their offspring. Really, I'm fairly positive about this. ;)

Considering the team's long dry spell, is it any wonder that they want to do things that harken back to its only wet spell?

Top Ten greatest baseball logo. Ever.$100 contest winner IIRC, that and season tickets.

I bet they ditch the metallic gold and navy uniforms in the near future, and probably already would have, if "Miller" wasn't involved. The "M" on the caps looks "surprisingly";) like the first letter on the beer packaging. Those are some ugly looking uniforms.

Hope Mr. Castellini doesn't have some crazy looking "C" that goes along with his produce company.;) Wouldn't surprise me if the new regime makes some changes in the Reds uniforms in the not too distant future, to mark the end of the old and put their own mark on the team.

Probably too late to do that for 2006, as MLB has to have notification in advance of any changes to the uniforms.

Sorry...I will step up and say "FUGLY". Those unis were horrible and reminds me of 1984.

The new unis were pleasing to the eye and made more sense with the "brewer" nickname. Are they the Brewer Milwaukees? Why is the B before the M on the ball and glove logo?

I loath the ball and glove logo.

I specifically remember the Reds being interested in signing Fingers, too. He declined after hearing that, yes, he'd have to shave off the 'bars. Anyone else remember that?

The old Seattle Pilots hat, with the design on the actual bill of the cap, might be one of the most unique and awesome uniform additions in all of sports.

I think it's cool they are bringing back an older uniform for a once a week basis. It would cool to see the Reds bring out the all white uniforms from the Big Red Machine era more than once every few years for "turn back the clock nights." I wouldn't be opposed to see the Reds do something like this rather than use the all red tops as the third uniform (not that I don't like them). I would really like to see the all red hats get used more though, the black ones are black, not red like our team name.

Yep, and I'm thinking that if the guys pictured below could shave for the Reds, then anyone could, including Fingers and Greg Vaughn:

Could this be the start of a reversal of the trend toward black in uniforms and sleeveless jerseys? The Royals are going back to their traditional blue and white uniforms and caps this season, and they will wear no sleeveless jerseys. Here's a gallery of their "new" look for any that are interested:

They will keep a black alternate jersey, but the caps will be entirely blue and white. Oddly, they're going to wear black belts with their traditional white and blue home uniforms and their gray and blue road uniforms.

Also, here are a couple of shots from the gallery...

Here's the story about the Royals' changes:

Kansas City Royals Unveil New Uniforms

Ballclub aims for more traditional look with changes

By Alan Eskew / Special to MLB.com

New uniform photo gallery (http://www.mlb.com/kc/photogallery/year_2006/month_01/day_30/cf1303636.html)

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals unveiled their new 2006 uniforms, which have a more traditional look, at their annual forecast luncheon on Friday. The two home uniforms will say "Royals," while the two road uniforms will have "Kansas City" on the front. The lettering on the front will change from last year's block print to script.

"Basically, the goal of the uniform changes was to get back to more of a traditional look for the ballclub," said Dave Witty, the Royals' vice president of communications and marketing.

One of the key changes with the new uniform is the return to the crown logo. The Royals used a circular logo over the past few seasons.

"The crown logo will go back on the uniform sleeves," Witty said. "The gold in the crown has been magnified. Several teams have the circle logo, but no team in sports has that crown. We've had a couple of different logos and we're trying to go with the distinctive crown."

Witty said the changes "are not drastic" and that many fans on Opening Day might not notice some of the subtle changes.

The Royals have done away with the sleeveless look in all four uniforms. "We'll have sleeves," Witty said.

The Royals did keep the black jerseys for an alternate road top. Witty said the black jerseys were popular with the fans and the players like it. They will also have grey road uniforms. The home uniforms will be the traditional white with a blue alternate jersey.

"Another change is on the hat and batting helmet -- they are all blue," Witty said. "We eliminated the black out of the batting helmet. There still is a black jersey."

One other change will be small blue piping on the pants for home and road uniforms.

"We wanted to jazz up the pants more," Witty said. The Royals will wear black belts and black shoes.

Catcher John Buck and Royals captain Mike Sweeney modeled the jersey tops at the luncheon.

"I think they are good looking," Buck said. "I'm more of a traditionalist."
Buck said he campaigned for a return to the Royals' powder blue tops.

"We did look at the powder blue road uniforms, but this time we did not go that far," Witty said. "I receive a lot of e-mails and calls about bringing back the powder blues."

Sweeney is glad to see the Royals switch uniform designs for another reason.

"Hopefully, the new uniforms will be a little more productive then the previous ones," Sweeney said. "I think maybe this is a symbol of a new start. We have new guys coming in. We have a new game plan the '06 season. Hopefully, the new uniforms will bring us more wins."

I have heard from some insiders that Cast is pondering removing black as well and go back to navy blue as contasting color. He wants the team to wear all red hat all the time.

Eh, if they had any guts they'd bring back the solid blue elastic cumberbuns too. But, that uni actually looks pretty good with the belts. I agree with the Brewha fans that they beat the current look. Milwaukee's modern "M" on the bill of their caps look like somebody hopped on a pc and found the fanciest free font they could find during an internet search. The blue is dark and drab. It's very non-descript. Shouldn't there be a beer stein on the sleeve or something? At least the old logo was unique and included a baseball.

What they really need to do if they are going to recall those teams is order two or three of their guys to grow their hair long and sport fu-manchu beards and mustaches. Robin Yount, Gorman Thomas and Pete Vukovich looked like Beer league softball players, and were as big to the appeal of Harvey's Wallbangers as the uniforms.

Oh, it's not just known by insiders anymore. Both ESPN and the Cincinnati Post have reported that it's pretty much a sure thing to happen. I hadn't heard the part that Cast wants them in all red hats all the time. If true, that would be great!
