I'll always have a warm spot in my heart for the Scott Sullivan/Brian Hunter smackdown.

Ray Knight/Eric Davis and Lou Pineilla/Rob Dibble also have to make the list. And as long as we're talking about future and former managers, does Pete Rose's poking of Dave Pollone count? ( :ughmamoru )

I think most people have faulty recall on Knight/Davis thing. The Reds 3b coach grabbed Davis and Knight sucker punched him, there wasn't much to it.

The best Reds fight I can recall is the Soto and Claudell Washington fiasco.

I'm at work so I haven't watched it, but I sure hope Nolan Ryan's beating of Robin Ventura made the cut.

I remember being up way past my bedtime and watching the famous Mets-Reds 14-inning extravaganza where a) Dave Parker's botched "flip-catch" allowed NY to tie the score in the ninth inning, b) Ray Knight jacked Eric Davis in the dome, and c) NY had to play relievers Jesse Orosco and Roger McDowell in the outfield because it ran out of players. And if it wasn't all in the same game, it was the same series for sure.

I also remember, even farther back, the time Mario Soto threw near Claudell Washington, then bounced the ball off Washington's upper half as hard as he could when CW charged the mound. Soto had *two* five-game suspensions for fighting that year. (Help me... which year was it? 1982? 1983? 1984?)

Are you sure? I distinctly remember Washington coming right at Mario from the batter's box- Soto had the ball in his hand already because it had been thrown back to him, and I remember seeing him throw it at Claudell from close range in the classic centerfield camera view.

The best one I've seen is the ATL-SD fight in ATL sometime in the mid 80s. Fans were involved.

I don't recall a "beating" but he did body slam him.
Headlock, then punches to the kisser. No body slam.

And not only did it make the cut, it took its rightful place at #1.

I can't believe the Ray Knight smackdown of Joaquin Andujar didn't make the list. I guess because no film is available.

I was there that 4th of July doubleheader. Knight was a gold glove boxer, and he whipped Andujar like he stole something.

It was awesome. A three punch KO.

Now hockey has real fighting and blood interspersed with periods of skating. Kind of like boxing on skates.

I had forgotten about Izzy Alcantara's sucker-kick of the catcher on the way out to the mound. (see video in first link at top if you don't know what I'm talking about). Creative.

Not a fight, but my favorite vulgar moment is Lee Elia's press conference! This is a phenomenal clip to listen to when you're having a bad day, especially if it's Dan O'Brien induced.

When I was doing some research for you and Sandy's project, I came across an article where Nuxhall got into a fight and Billy Martin - of all people - played peacemaker. I'm sure I posted it on here somewhere.
