Right. Apparently I've been co-opted, or some other word (context, people! It's the key to pretending you have a good vocabulary :D ) into posting this thread, so here we (the "royal" we) go:

You are cordially invited to the Official, One-of-a-Kind, Super Duper RedsZone Baseball Spectacular!!!!11!!1!

What: A weekend jam-packed with Reds baseball, pub-crawling, and... well, I dunno, I get kinda hazy after the pub-crawling part (but I'm sure it was fun).

Where: Cincinnati, obviously. Or "The Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Area," if you prefer.

When:: Memorial Day Weekend, 2006. Last year we had people flying into town as early as Thursday afternoon; most cats cut out sometime on Sunday.

Why: Watch the Reds lose! Catch a Milton HR ball or three (or five, or whatever)! See certain female members of this board whose names I will not mention get all googily-eyed over Adam Dunn and Austin Kearns and Matt Belisle (is he even still with the team?)! Get drunk with Puffy and Yours Truly! Buy Krono an apple juice! Funnel your money into my local economy! It'll be great!

Who: Well, you, obviously.

Seriously, though - we did this last year and it was a blast. People coming in from all over, hanging out, drinking beer (a lot of beer), taking over Tracy Jones' mic on the after-game radio show, mocking Sammy Sosa, drinking more beer, and then there was the whole escort service thing. Meet, face-to-face, people who you've been posting with all these years and buy them a beer. Buy me one, too.

Oh, right, there were a couple of Reds games somewhere in there, too.

Post on this thread if you're planning on coming; for those who made the trip last year and are coming again, post your hotel ideas - do we want to decide on a "Hotel of Record" this year? And we need to decide on a treasurer to get the group package tickets again.

Of course you can come. You just can't participate in some of the more "adult" activities. I don't think you need to be 21 to get into Gameday.

Everyone can come. All are welcome. They tell me there's more to life than drinking, and though I don't know what they're talking about, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. ;)

And if you can't attend on multiple days, just come down for one.

Anyone?

*sips a white russian*

I'll be there, man.

I'm a local so it's easy for me to attend. If you guys are planning on getting lined up with a group ticket package, just let me know the details and I'm good to go.

:beerme:

FWIW, last season Gameday had dollar drafts before most (all?) Reds home games and hopefully they keep that same deal going this season. I'm also in for giving Tracy Jones a word or three to chew on after the game on Saturday.

Roy, Roy, Roy. You just have to know how to budget your time. Make sure you're out of some kind of food or ice or whatever on Fri or Sat night or Sunday afternoon. Volunteer to go to the store for said items but go to the game with us instead. When Mrs. Tucker asks where you have been, make up some kind of excuse like you got lost or you had to go to several stores to find it or you had a flat tire or something. ;)

I think that's a great idea Chip.

I sure that Mrs. T will be so grateful that I returned safely and won't have any problems with me being gone for such an event for our first-born son. No problem at all. Along with the ice, I better find a good lawyer too.

Maybe I could convince Uncle Bush aka Bob B. to go get ice with me. He'll be around. *That* would be a blast.

Oof. Anybody wanna turn around and head to Chicago right after this to see the Reds play there? I always have a hard time fending off the Wrigley faithful by myself. They are secretly jealous that I have the cutest Reds-themed shoes the world has ever seen. Also, the last time I saw the Reds play there, a series of Cubs pitchers walked like six Reds batters in a row. It was amazing, but my glee was rather solitary.

Mine were my mother's. They have Mr. Red embroidered on the sides. But man, baseball stitches...

I'll have to ask. I know they are 4-5 years old and at least one move ago.

They aren't Reds specific, just obvious baseball stiching on them. She only wears them when we are going to the ballpark. I think she "only" has one pair of them, so I'd bet she hasn't been able to find them again.

From the looks of them, they are not a high dollar item, likely a Target type place had them.

Damn I would love to do this my problem would be driving from upstate N.Y about a hour north of albany. What sort of hotels/motels are near the park? Also what kind of price range we talking as im not the richest of folks but i could scrape together a couple of hundred dollars.Sounds like a very intriguing event to say nothing of seeing the Reds play outside of shea and the old olympic stadium.

I think I shot through about six bones last weekend, but I spent a lot of money on beer and incidentals. Tickets'll probably be around 20-25 a game with group discount rates (if we get enough people onboard) and hotels are going to run you anywhere from 80 a night to 150-160, or you can go for the big-money Westin. The Radisson was 120 a night, but I don't recommend it.

All said, not counting gas you can probably do the weekend quite comfortably in the 400 range.

And yeah, I posted this way out in advance so people can start thinking about whether or not they want to do it (or do it again). Tickets aren't even on sale yet - speaking of which, I'll handle the ticket purchasing if no one else steps up, though I'm not that thrilled about it. ;) Creek, I don't want you to be saddled with the responsibility for it if you can't attend - that seems totally unfair to me.

TeamBoone
01-20-2006, 12:34 PM
Hotel price depends on discounts (check the travel sites; someone on here got the Westin last year for $65 a night from one of them) and location. You'll obviously have a car and staying out in the burbs rather than downtown or on the river can save you a bundle. If you'd like suggestions for them and/or hotel names (there are tons), let me know and I'll do some research for you.

You could also buy cheaper tickets but wouldn't be able to be with the group during the game(s). You could, of course, probably slide in later as people shuffle around the park and give up seats around where the group might be sitting.

OldRightHander
01-20-2006, 01:07 PM
Count me in too. I think I'll stay at my house though. It makes more sense than the hotel and I wouldn't want to leave my wife home alone.

White Sox weekend is my birthday weekend, and I do have excellent birthday baseball karma. However not only is it interleague play against the World Champions, it's also Father's Day weekend, and I would imagine what few available tickets there might be will be shelled out as promotional/courtesy tickets. Not to mention the fact that some Redszoners may actually have to spend the day/weekend with their families, if you're into that sort of thing.
