Reds and the Pirates will play in the annual Hall of Fame game in Cooperstown this year for the first time in decades.

Well that's certainly a Hall of Fame matchup.

I heard it on the radio and I feel like they said 5/15, and the Reds do have that day off, but I didn't want to say for sure since I wasn't clear on what was said.

You are right it is on Monday May 15th. It is on the travel day right before they start a series in Pittsburgh.

This is an exhibition game, correct? Or does it count in the standings?

If it is an exhibition....are we allowed to call up some minor leaguers to play in that game so we don't get any regulars hurt?

That's usually how they play those things. You could see a Steve Kelly or Homer Bailey get to pitch the game on their regular pitching turn. Or someone like a Chick, or Germano, or Wood.

Usually - sometimes a few "name" players make it. A lot depends on who/where they are playing on the 14th.

I always look forward to the day the Hall of Fame Game is played, because that night, George Grande is nowhere to be heard.

That is the day off between a 6 game home stand and a 6 game road trip so I don't think you will see any regulars play in that game.
