Take this for what it's worth (which I think is not very much)

"Getting Griffey With it?

From the "Take It for What It's Worth" department: WEEI's John Metaparel had a "scoop" this morning that the Red Sox were interested in Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr., who could possibly come to Boston in a trade involving pitcher Bronson Arroyo."

Hey - I just heard or thought I heard WLW's Seg Dennison that Adam Dunn was a 'Dunner-Goner'. Said something about Anaheim for Ervin Santana.

(the above was a fake news story - never happened)

See - how it easy that was?

:D

Are you suggesting that I made this up? C'mon man, check the link.

It may be bull, but don't shoot the messenger.

What? Arroyo is on the verge of signing a 3 year $11.1 million contract extension, against his agent's advise, because he wants to stay in Boston so badly.

This is great. I say we trade Griffey and Dunner that way we can make playing time for Womack, Freel, and RA. This is a no brainer in DanO's eyes..
:Sigh:

This morning, one of the NE sports radio stations (either WEEI or the Score in Providence) reported this morning that the reason the agent was against the Arroyo contract was that it would make him more affordable/attractive to a small market team. It was most likely WEEI but I was flipping stations in the car on the way in and I don't remember which i heard this on.

This was probably the stations source:

Wow. I read the article in the Globe through the link at Fox Sports. Post it and now registration is suddenly required. Sorry.
Maybe this is the actual source:

If you read that the intention was pointing the fingers at you - my sincerest apologies.

I was just making up how easy rumors can and will get started.

Arroyo just signed a 3 year deal with the Red Sox today for between 11.5 and 12.5 million dollars. His agent said he took less from the Red Sox because he wants to play for them the rest of his career.

Only intends on playing three more years? Wow. Guess that leaves him plenty of time for that "music" career.

The fact that he signed a cheaper deal makes him more attractive to trade. Bronson has forgotten that their is no loyalty in baseball it is a buisness. As far as Griffey to Boston goes don't think it will happen Boston needs some speed to replace Damon. Griffey is not a speed merchant.

Arroyo was promised by the Sox that they would not trade him this winter so he signed. Nothing stops them from trading him anyway but how many players are going to trust them in the future if they so blatantly break their word to a player. Arroyo goes nowhere. I don't mind moving Griff for young pitching but this trade rumor has no merit.

Lest we forget Jeff Shaw....

If a vet is traded in the middle of a multiyear contract, at the end of the year he has the ability to demand to renegotiate that contract or he becomes a free agent.

Why this works for the A's:

Beane has been sniffing glue.

Why this works for the Reds:

'Cause Milton and Aurilia suck.

Well, it was gonna go down, but Beane held out for Womack citing his "veteran leadership" and "speed". Apparently O'Brien then demanded Bobby Crosby be included to offset the loss of Womack.

O'Brien did not get a response until a few moments later when Beane's secretary responded "I'm sorry, Mr. Beane has an accident." Apparently he had passed out from the aforementioned glue sniffing. O'Brien is awaiting a response to his offer.

Yeah, Meterparel is a joke, the Red Sox would look like complete scum if they traded Arroyo now, and I can't even imagine the horrors, defensively, of an OF with Manny, Griffey, and Trot Nixon in Fenway Park. And Nixon's made of glass himself, I don't know if they could even get a full season out of him and Griffey combined. I bet it would give them the most expensive OF in the majors, though.

Dude, can we get them to throw in Beane, the Glue sniffer, if we throw in Dan O'Brein, the just plain "Sniffer"...

Ha Ha Ha

As for the Griffey for Arroyo though.. the Boston Globe today states in the Arroyo Deal? Marte for Crisp trade article that the rumor of Junior for Bronson is likly false.

Not to sound like "a homer" but while the injury issue is still there, Griffey's contract does not seem that bad compared to the current market. Won't he be paid less than Furcal and Damon this year?

I would hate to see Griffey go anywhere as it seems that no matter what his level of productivity the team's tail spins always seem to coincide with his leaving the lineup.

Oh today's Mitreparel rumor had the Red Sox talking about Coco Crisp again with Cleveland seeking Marte.

If Griffey can stay healthy, then it isn't a horrible deal.

They could have picked a Griffey picture where he wasn't missing the ball by a foot.
