Sean is listed as 21 on yahoo and espn.
Obviously he won't get that number (Roberto Clemente)

Anyone know what number he'll use?

On the Pirates website they have him listed as #25

He also wore a #25 jersey when he was introduced in Pittsburgh a while back.
You can kinda see it here:

I was thinking that #20 was what he wore in high school... for some reason, whatever number it was, it wasn't available when he came to the Reds, which was why he chose #21.

Thanks Kitty. That would be a very good reason why it wasn't available!

I know most people here wanted Sean gone....but there's just something not right about looking at the above picture.

You typed what I was thinking. Regardless of the baseball/money reasons, it just doesn't look right.

He had #22 in high school, I recall because I remember the Real Reds segment when they showed it being retired.

And yes, that picture is terrible to see, even though I advocated the trade.

OK then, why would #22 not be available in Cincinnati?

OK then, why would #22 not be available in Cincinnati?

He came up with Cleveland in 1997 wearing #52. #22 was being worn by Brian Giles at the time.

When he came to Cincinnati in 1998, #22 was being worn by Jon Nunnally, an outfielder who came over to the Reds in '97 from KC.

As he had not yet been elected Mayor, he likely lacked the leverage to get a "seasoned major leaguer" to give up #22, and thus settled on #21.

When Casey came to the Reds in 1998 #22 was already taken by Jon Nunnally, I presume that Casey took the next closest number, 21, and decided to stick with it in 1999 and on despite 22 being available.

edit: oops didn't even see Caveat's post

It's being held just in case for "Dan Driessen Jersey Retirement Night".

Duh.

Surely for being the first National League DH in a World Series!

1976, 5-for-14 (.357) w/ a HR, 2 doubles, 4 RBIs and a SB in 4 games (all as the DH).

I heard Sean in a radio interview with eighther Lance or the Furball after the trade.

The question about what number he'd wear in Pittsburgh was ask. Sean said since#21 was retired he chose #25 to honor Jim Thome.

Sean said when he first came up with Cleveland Thome took him under his wing and treated him like a little brother.

My older brother punched me on a regular basis, called me "weasel", never missed an opportunity to abuse me, held me down and did the spit loogie thing 2 inches from my face, and all but ignored me otherwise.
