WMP has never hit above .270 in a season and he averages a BB every 16 ab's.

Based on a 550 ab season that would slot him at about 35 walks for the year, here's the best HR by a guy (under 27) who hit under .280 and walked 35 or fewer times.

HOMERUNS YEAR HR BB AVG
1 Sammy Sosa 1996 40 34 .273
2 Dave Kingman 1976 37 28 .238

So when Wily Mo hits 41, he'll be at the top of that list. ;)

His career HR rate over 550 at bats is 33 homers. So if he improves on that at all, we're looking mid to upper 30's and beyond.

He will strike out too much to get decent pitches to rock into the Ohio River. 31, tops.

He did walk in both his AB's today. That's crazy. I give him 38.

I'd say 30-33, higher if he plays every day, but I am still afraid that Jerry will try to work in a lot of ABs for the 4th OF, if everyone stays healthy. That may cut into WMP's ABs and ability to get comfortable and settle in at the plate.

According to my VIZCAINO projection system, Wily Mo will swat 52 big flies this upcoming season.

Holy crap! Let's all have a prayer session in hopes that this will carry over into the season. He's definitely raised the bar for himself with all this talk of 30 homers being too wimpy and amazing new patience. We'd probably have the gratest offense in historoy if he pulled off a .350OBP / 40 homer season!

I'm expecting him to walk a little more often than his rate in the past because A.) Edwin will likely bat behind him often B.) His offseason work on this front C.) Knowing the pitchers a little better and D.) He was always more comfortable, i.e. patient at the plate when he was starting. Having said that I don't expect more than 35 for a lot of the same reasons, plus the fact that his swing is likely to still include some holes. And I will say somewhere around 50 walks.
