From Marc's blog:

SARASOTA -- Got a few more cuts this afternoon:

Reassigned to minor league camp: Jimmy Journell, Ben Kozlowski
Optioned to Louisville: Elizardo Ramirez, Ray Olmedo
Optioned to Chattanooga: Travis Chick, Phil Dumatrait, Miguel Perez, Joey Votto

Homer Bailey's still here, but don't read anything into it. He'll pitch in tonight's game and his next regular turn falls Saturday, when the Reds have a split-squad. I imagine he'll be gone shortly after that, but I should say, all the higher-ups seem excited about seeing him pitch a couple more times.

Kind of shocked to see Olmedo and Kozlowski sent packing this early.

I'm surprised Dumatrait was sent to AA i thought he was gonna at least be in Louisville

I thought Olmedo was out of options?

With Dumatrait and Ramirez sent down, I guess that leaves Germano and Gosling fighting for Wilson's slot @ #5. ... and we'll have to see if other slots are available due to injury (Milton & Harang).

Since Gosling was claimed off of waivers, does that mean that we lose him (or at least risk losing him) if we try to send him down to the minors?

I thought Dumatrait was slotted for Louisville as well. He pitched well at AA last year, and has nothing to prove. He needs to be at AAA. It's a confidence thing as much as it is facing a more experienced taltent level. Koz I see in AAA, and It's good that Votto is at AA. If he can put up some good numbers, his value goes up and he can be offered for pitching.

I guess not.

I remember reading that Gosling has one option remaining, so he could be sent back down, if he doesn't crack the rotation.

Then why didn't the D'backs use that option?

I think it was because they needed space on their 40 man roster. why they didn't just restructure Wily Mo's contract is beyond me. :)

What happened to Steve Kelly? Is he injured, did we lose him somehow? I haven't heard about him yet.

Pretty sure Kelly is in the Reds minor league camp.

I'd like to see Chick sent down to Sarasota until he sorts himself out.

I'm surprised by Dumatrait getting placed in AA though. Hadn't heard much about him this spring, which makes you wonder how high the Reds are on him.

I like the positive reinforcement of giving Homer an extended stay in the major league camp, but I fear he's going to be put in harm's way this season (AA or higher). The Reds may yet love him to death.

Olmedo out and Bergolla hurt, infield is pretty much set.

The infield was set long before Bergolla got hurt.

Dumatrait did get two spot starts. So at least they were willing to give him those innings...
