It's not Penny their going after, I bet it's Gagne. I can see Larue for Gagne WITH LA picking up some of his contract-- a) they've got Baez closing and doing it well b) Navarro has been hurt and Martin is not ready c) the Dodgers are not long on SP d) Gagne is SUPER expensive if he's going to be a set-up guy for the Dodgers e) the Dodgers would be getting a commodity in Larue that they know would have trade value once Martin is ready...

I doubt it - because $10 million greenbacks due to Mr. Gagne mean there is a whole lot of free salary to be picked up.

And when he is healthy, Gagne is the Dodgers closer. No question about that. I'm not sure with what you mean by "Baez already closing and doing it well" - closing in the spring means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Baez was a mid level closer last year. Gagne, when healthy, is one of the top 2 or 3 relievers in the game.

According to a report I heard on XM, Gagne's FB is going to be around 86mph...ouch.

Gagne supposedly hit 94 the other day. I can also see think of this Larue for Baez--look at his #s compared to Isringhausen:

I think its creative, but lets be honest. Gange makes way too much money, and I think we're a lot farther away from contending than a closer. LA would have to take on a serious portion of his salary, or take something like Milton, and I just dont see that happening.

I wouldn't call Gagne on his last leg, just not all the way back yet. I could see a Penny deal, or even Baez, I am just glad that Krivsky is leaving no stone unturned.

Tons of it. He has lost 10 mph off of his fastball. That's huge. He may still be a closer, but not the effective one that he once was. Think Danny Graves.

When you think Gagne, think Rob Dibble....plain and simple.

Would you want Dibble as your 10 million dollar a year closer AFTER he hurt his arm?

No way in the world I would do this.

Gagne is not enough of a PITCHER to recover from his injury.....look for him to be doing ESPN or BBTN commentator shots in a year or two.
