Wow, has Aaron been stinkin awesome this spring. I knew he'd done well, but lets take a closer look at his stats:

10 hits
1 run (1 earned run) - on 1 home run
0 Base on balls
1 Hit by Pitch
9 Strike outs
5.8 K/9 (not awesome, but not bad)
A ground out/fly out ratio of 24-9 (HUGE in our ballpark)
82 pitches, 74 of which went for strikes
Before the TB game, he had a nasty .75 WHIP (I couldn't find more recent stats)

In his 4 innings vs. Philly, he threw 23 pitches, all 23 for strikes. I'd say his location is pretty good this spring.

The fantasy dude at SI likes to look at three stats in spring training: GO/FO, NP/IP and K/BB

Aaron's stats in these categories:

Above all else, this "82 pitches, 74 of which went for strikes" makes me the happiest. If you don't walk people and you don't give up a ton of homers, you'll be successful. Look at Carlos Silva and Brad Radke.

That's a joke, right?

The Twins' last WC was in 1991 -- before the big salary boom, before today's huge difference between big market and small market teams. The A's last WC was only two years earlier in 1989.

Including 2000, the Twins are 513-458, with 3 playoff appearances. Their top win total was 94 in 2002.

The A's are 571-400 in that same span, with 4 playoff appearances. Their top win total was 103 in 2002. That's almost 10 more wins per season, with one more playoff appearance.

There's no question which one has done a better job.


But yes, Aaron Harang is having a good spring.

On a side not after reviewing the SI list, I read yesterday that the Mets are thinking of putting Heilman back in the pen(he has been terrific this spring) and giving the 5th spot to Bannister. I would love to have that guy.
