Indians just put Graves in for Sabathia in the 3rd. Let's see what develops.

Graves tries to pick off trhe second base runner and throws the ball wildly into centerfield. Runners advance to second and third. According to Jon Miller, "Not even close."

Why was Sabathia taken out?

Sabathia left the game due to injury. Graves inherited an 0-1 count on Thome, and he still walked him. Then he immediately proceeds to throw the ball into center field on a pickoff throw to second base.

Atta boy, Danny!

Graves walks Pierszinksi (sp?) on 4 pitches. Danny-boy picking up right where he left off from last season.

He inherits a 0-1 count, gets a strike, and then proceeds to try to go inside on Thome 3 times, all misses, and then misses outside to get the walk. Terrible pitch sequence, and Joe Morgan agreed with me.

At least they get their look at Danny in the third and not the ninth.

It's sad really. We heard all spring about how well Danny was throwing, and how his movement was back, and he goes out in the first game of the season and can't hold it together. I really wonder if part of it isn't mental for him anymore?

They did. I don't know why it's such a bad word on this site. Posednik getting the runner home from third AND the runner from second over is good hitting.

How serious was Sabathia's injury? It appeared to be a strain in the ribcage area. He threw a weak fastball in the third--then Victor Martinez immediately called time and headed to the mound. Next came the Indians' trainer and Eric Wedge. After about two warm up tosses, Sabathia simply walked off the mound and straight to the clubhouse.

Out comes Danny boy who was told "looks like this is gonna be your night" and the rest was history.

From the looks of it, he pulled/strained an oblique on the right side...those can hamper you all year..... too bad...he's enjoyable to watch pitch (if only he'd straighten his damn hat!!!)

Danny is finished. WHen he threw 93-94 with good sink he had only a small margin for error. At 88 without the sink he has zero margin for error and combine that with no quality second pitch he is afraid to challenge anybody. It is only a matter of time until the DFA.

So would a sac bunt with no outs in the third inning, which the Cleveland radio announcers suggested Podsednik might do and mentioned that would be like Guillen to try. It might be "productive" but it's still dumb. On the other hand, two runners going on contact, as soon as the ball is hit on the ground is just good base running.

I agree. Sad, but his arm is shot. H eknows he doesnt have the stuff to challenge guys so he was trying to play around the zone and it just won't work. Three weeks or so and he will be DFA.
