Bot 3rd, 1 on, 1 out.

Easy Edwin Encarnacion (Easy-EE) up to bat after trying to impress the masses with his swings in the last AB, shows some real maturity at the dish by taking a 3-2 walk. I like to see that in a kid, especially in an opening day situation.

Good bit of plate discpline.

2 on, 1 out.

Bot 3rd, nobody on, 1 out. Hatteberg, officially no long loathed by Puffy.

Austin Kearns up to bat again, gives Zambrano a gift by swinging through a sinker at his shoelaces.

Zambrano at 60+ pitches, still looking wild.

Javier Valentin swings hard and drives the ball over Derrek Lee, ripping the base hit.

Not that it matters, because the Baseball Equivalent of "Free Parking" for the pitcher, Aaron Harang, is up next.

Bot 3rd, 2 out, 1 on.

Aaron Harang does his job by turning the batting order over to lead off the 4th.

I love the guy as a pitcher, but can we buy this guy a copy of Tom Emanski's "Teaching the Mechanics of the Big League Swing" or something? I mean, it's embarassing...

Caveat Emperor

Top of the 4th, suddenly the game is a lot more enjoyable. Aaron Harang trots out to the mound after a brief talk with Chris Chambliss. The words "Lost Cause" were apparently used.

Mike Barrett hits a DEEP DRIVE over the head of Griffey, who looked like he was having a morning stroll through the outfield as opposed to going after it hard. It's a 2 base hit for the catcher who looks like he still gets carded when buying smokes.

0 out, man on 2nd.

Top 4, Barrett on 2nd, 0 out

The hated and dispised Matt Murton steps in. I hear this guy threw at his own kid in a father son game. He hits a dribbler back to Harang, who smartly stares Barrett down -- that's right, you GET back to 2nd -- and then throws Murton out.

Murton does a quick WGN interview, making me dislike him even more.

Carlos Zambrano up in an RBI situation. ESPN analysts would be contractually obliged to state "Helping his own cause" were he to get a base hit here. Thankfully, he does't and instead strikes out.

Top of the 5th, 1 out

Todd Walker out of the dugouts. Reds fans remember fondly what it was like to have a 2nd baseman that didn't turn their stomach, small sample size of 1 game notwithstanding. Walker with a deep drive that Griffey should've caught up to, but bounces over the wall for a ground rule double.

I love Griffey, but Denorfia would've had that.

Jacque Jones rides his scooter to the batters box and strikes out swinging. President Bush boos loudest of all, until told that "This isn't the Jacque that wouldn't go to war with you." He sits down, slightly embarassed.

Austin Kearns gets a little chin music from Zambrano, and then repays him by driving a frozen rope into the corner for a double. 'Dem ears got some magic power, or something like that.
