As a pitcher, meaning being at the plate while listed in the game as a pitcher, I believe the record is Wes Ferrell with 37 home runs as a pitcher. In 1931, Ferrell only gave up nine home runs ... and he also hit nine home runs himself, which is the single season leader for a pitcher. Warren Spahn is second all-time with 35 career home runs as a pitcher.

I believe Babe Ruth hit 686 home runs as an outfielder while only hitting 15 home runs as an actual pitcher in a game.

I don't think any of us are hating on Wily Mo. Its just the fact that Bronson has pitched two great games and has hit more homeruns than WMP. Who would have expected that. I hope Wily Mo becomes a great player, but the fact is that he may never become what people say he will. By the way, His offense is definately worse than Dunn's IMO. Take away his defense on opening day, he hasn't been too bad. Not great by any means, but not too bad. I remember going to games and watching WMP play the OF. It was about like watching a train wreck. I was at the game that he ran into the wall. He made the catch, but he sure isn't a gracefull fellow. Not saying he can't improve, and with a few ballet lessons, maybe he will look better out there, but his defense right now just isn't ML caliber. Probably not even AA caliber. Sure he is a victim of his own contract, but as the saying goes, there is no such thing as a can't miss prospect. In my eyes, WMP is just a prospect playing at the Major League level. But hey, I'll give Wily Mo props for the hours of laughter his antics have caused. Heres to you WMP:beerme:

What you see is what you get with Wily Mo. Great batting practices. Towering home runs. Lots of strikeouts, adventurous defense and a bunch of disabled list visits. I don't know if that's ever going to change. He's got enormous upside, but I have my doubts that he'll ever put it together to become an All-Star caliber player.

But...but..but..WMP is going to be the next Sammy Sosa....
