Bengals Schedule for 2006

[Reds Fanatic]

The Bengals schedule for 2006 has been released. So far we are only scheduled for 2 night games. A Thursday night against Baltimore and Monday night against Indianapolis. Of course this could change as they last 7 weeks are on the flexible schedule and the Sunday night games for those weeks will be announced later. The season ends at home against the Steelers on New Year's Eve.

What is it with the NFL. They snub the Bengals out of primetime games every year. There must be a sports conspiracy against Cincinnati. First the Reds lose the tradition of opening the baseball season, the Bearcats get snubbed from the NCAA Tourney, and the bengals can't get a primetime game if they go 16-0. Well at least they got 2 this year, I don't know what i'm griping about, but I thought there would be at least one more Monday Night Game or at least a couple Sunday Night games, which is still possible I guess, especially the last game of the season.

The season starts with 5 of the first 6 games against playoff teams from last year and then ends with the Colts, Broncos and Steelers. This schedule is so hard the Bengals could have a better team than last year and still end up with a worse record.

The last seven games are rotating. If we are in the playoff hunt, we could have some more primetime games.

With that being said, November looks like a pretty weak schedule if the Ravens dont return to their former selves. Two games vs Baltimore, then one against the Saints, Browns, and Chargers(which is winnable). If we can go 5-0 or 4-1, I would be happy.

From November 12th on are the games that could have their times changed on Sundays. On those weeks the NFL is going to schedule the prime time game and the 4:15 national game about 12 days in advance. Looking at that schedule the most likely days we may have shifted are the last game against the Steelers and maybe the Chargers game in November.

So basically, the Bengals finished 11-5 last year. New England and Washington finished 10-6, yet have three PT/H appearances. Dallas and Minnesota were 9-7 but get 4 and 3. The Falcons were 8-8, but have the same amount of games as the Bengals. As I mentioned earlier, Oakland has 4 PT/H and Green Bay has 3, both finished 4-12 last season.

On the other hand, Jacksonville finished 12-4, yet gets the same amount of playoff games we did. Tampa Bay finished 11-5, yet only manages to get one game. The NFL is really playing to their fan base.

This really has nothing if little to do with Moss. If anything, Chad Johnson has probably eclipsed Moss in terms of popularity after last season.

Its the NFL playing to their demographic. Its like in baseball when people pull for the Braves, Cubs, Giants, Dodgers, Red Sox, or Yankees. The NFL has that in the Raiders, Cowboys, Packers, and Patriots.

I like how ESPN and ABC have said that they don't like to give the Bengals prime time games because they haven't fared well, but they always schedule them on the road, like in Jacksonville.

As a Bucs fan, I'm considerably disappointed in the NFL's scheduling. The Bucs are getting one Monday-night matchup against the Carolina Panthers and then get one other "nationwide" appearence against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day (one of the most unfair scheduling quirks of the NFL -- forcing some team to travel on short rest to Dallas or Detroit). Otherwise 13 of their remaining 14 games are 1:00 PM "local" starts.

No national love for the Bucs.

Oh well...Bucs v. Bengals falls on my birthday, October 15th. I'm planning on being in Tampa with a couple of my friends (all Bengals fans) for the game. Bucs victory would make a great birthday present. :laugh:

The schedule isn't looking as brutal anymore. The Bengals are 3-0 with a head to head win vs the Steelers. The Patriots are up next, and I believe they can be beat. Basically the same test as with Pittsburgh but with a little easier defense. After that comes games @TB, who has been awful this year (and just lost their QB) and then home to the Panthers (also somewhat struggling, but a good team) and the Falcons. Not an easy stretch by any means, but we get a bye in there as well. I'm thinking we should be able to win 3 of the next 4 games. I really hope so as the month of November looks a lot tougher than I thought it would at the beginning of the season.

That schedule is stll brutal.

There is one to two e-z ducks (the Browns and Raiders) and all the rest are tricky propositions.

I dunno...they look great, but that is just an awful schedule.

I still don't see it as being all that difficult.
At TB, CAR at home, at NO(mirage) should all be wins.
As you mentioned Oak and Cleveland on the road.

Hell if we split the other 8 games, we're 12-4.

Fun Fact:
The Bengals have 5 teams still on the schedule that are currently undefeated.
Baltimore(3-0), San Diego(2-0), Indianapolis (3-0), Atlanta(2-0),(New Orleans 2-0)*
*Atlanta and New Orleans play each other tonight.

Taking Indianapolis out of the equation, the other 4 unbeaten teams have beaten teams with a combined 2 wins.

Of course I suppose one could turn it around to the Bengals who's oppenent's record to this point is 1-8, but we'll ignore that for now.
