For what it's worth, Womack does have a higher career .OBP against Maddux than Freel.

Womack - .293 OBP
Freel - .278 OBP

Freel has a higher SLG though.

Womack - .308, 1 double in 39 at-bats
Freel - .556, 2 doubles and a homer in 18 at-bats

Javier Valentin has hit Greg Maddux very well in his career. In 10 at-bats, Javy is hitting .600/.636/1.800 with 4 homers and 5 RBI.

Junior has had some success off Maddux too. He's hitting .450/.542/.800 with 2 homers and 4 RBI in 20 career at-bats.

If the Reds get into a slugging match with the Cubs today I like our chances. After Lee there doesn't seem to be a lot of power in that Cubs lineup.

Even though I would much rather see these games live on television, following the gametracker at the office makes the day go by so much faster. Especially now that ESPN has completely redesigned the gametracker to show pitches and animations of what happens on the field...

Hard for me to complain about that at this point. Hatteberg is getting on base nicely, and Kearns is in a nice spot to do some damage with guys on base. Reds have to have one of the top line-ups through seven games, I yield to Narron at this point.

He's simply not mucking with what has been a winning formula so far. He's got some straight platoons going with set lineups and he's not going to change it unless the Reds start losing or some guys really start to fade. That's my opinion of what's going on at least.

Yep, the Gametracker has much improved over the years. I remember back when it was just a small diamond-shaped thing with blinking lights, sort of like those primitive handheld Tiger "soccer" and "baseball" games.

So on the pregame, Dusty say the Cubs are only carrying 11 pitchers. that is kinda off a shocker escpecially with Marshall, & what they have seen of Rusch.

Well that's probably why no one is accusing Dusty of being a managerial genius here in Chicago this year

Whether Claussen struggled Thursday night or not (I don't think he did), he has indeed struggled against the Cubs in his career. Bronson Arroyo was able to buck the trend a bit yesterday, so hopefully Brandon can do the same today.

How do you figure that? If anything, you need more bats because of the number of times you pinch-hit. I would rather have six (or even better, seven) position players on the bench.

Pitchers tend to "last" longer due to the "non-hitting" factor. They usually don't adjust due to not needing to worry about "double switches".

It's funny to watch an AL manager to do a "double switch" in interleagues.

In the AL - your best PH is your DH.

I understand that. But, if anything, that is an argument as to why the AL can get by with a "smaller" bench than the NL. In the AL, you just need a backup catcher, a backup infielder, and a backup outfielder for defensive replacements. In the NL, you need more position players on the bench due to pinch-hitting for the pitcher and double switches, in addition to defensive replacements.

He has incredible command and gets a lot of marginal calls to go his way based on reputation FOR having that kind of command.

Plus, you do him incredible favors when you expand the zone and swing at pitches that are either unhittable or pitches that would induce poor contact if hit.
