In the warmup for the Angels/Rangers game this evening the announcers noted that Vlad Guerrero has a 38 game hitting streak against the Rangers.

Anyone know who holds the all-time record and what it is?

OK, the Angel announcers just answered my own question. Vlad's streak is the longest since STATS, Inc. started keeping the records in 1969. There are 5 players tied at second with 18 games. Thirty-eight is quite a big difference over 18---I'm impressed.

How many times did Ruth face the Red Sox after the trade?

Don't know. How many consecutive games did he get hits against them?

I had Vlad on my fantasy team last year, that's how I knew he completely dominated the Rangers. Anytime I saw his upcoming schedule had a series in Arlington, or at home against the Rangers, I knew I'd win that week. Not only does he gets hits against the Rangers, I'd bet his OPS is considerably north of 1.000 in those 39 (now) games. He just kills Ranger's pitching.

Griffey is second all time with 36 against the Indians from 92-96 i believe.

OK, now you've got me curious, DD. On the Angels game they showed a list of 5 players that they said were tied for second at 18 (against various teams). Obviously, Jr. wasn't on the list but, given his great productivity during the period, I could believe him doing what you said.

Anyone out there know?

I found this entry from June 21st of last year:

Vladimir Guerrero has a 25-game hitting streak versus the Texas Rangers. In only 25 games. The details of Guerrero versus Texas are as follows: 10 home runs, 20 RBI, 23 runs, .353 average with an OPS over 1.200.

Still looking on Griffey

Found this from a couple days ago:

Vladimir Guerrero continued his amazing success against the Rangers, going 2- for-4 with an RBI for the Angels, winners in three of their last four games. Guerrero has hit safely in all 37 games versus Texas in his career. It's the longest streak by a player against one team since divisional play began in 1969. During his surge against Texas, Guerrero is hitting .438 (64-for-146) with 13 homers and 30 RBI.

Doesn't mention Griffey at 36....

Don't see anything on Griffey's streak vs. CLE.

Maybe Im wrong, but it was on Sportscenter when they were talking about Vlad the other night. I will see what I can find, but thats what they showed on one of their little charts/lists.

ahah! found it. I was off by 1 game, it was 35 for Griffey. Below is the part needed, but the entire article can be seen by the link below.

Guerrero has suited up against the Rangers 37 times and each time he has managed a hit. It is the longest such streak since divisional play began in 1969, ahead of Ken Griffey's streak of 35 consecutive games against the Cleveland Indians from 1992-96

You would be correct Mr. DD

Guerrero has now hit in 33 straight games against Texas, the longest streak by a player against one team since Seattle's Ken Griffey Jr. hit in 35 consecutive versus Cleveland from 1992-1995.

Thanks, DD.

One would think that a team facing someone over 39 games would find a way to shut him out at least one of those games. I'll be watching this the nex time the Angels and Rangers play.
