Nice to see Jay Bruce break out of that four game slump he was in.

P.Valiquette is off to a better start this year. He is the same age, size, and build as Wood and a Lefty also.

Wood 6'0" 165 pounds haven't pass 90mph this year, sits 85-89
Valiquette 6'1" 195 pounds has reached 96mph on occasions, sits 89-93

Both are 19 with 8 days difference in age!

I hate comparaison, we should hope to see them evolve into major leaguers and not see who is the better one. We have 2 horses in these guys.

How nice will it be to see both of them get to the show with Homer!

Redsup, I have heard that Wood is being told not to go full out with his fastball just yet in the season and to work more with his change and curve than puting all he has into a fastball.

RedsUp

Dougdirt,

Why would a pitcher be restrained? To work on their other pitches?
Wood is supposed to have the best change-up so why hold him back.
Keep the heat up so your fastball stay where it should be, pitch your change like it suppose to be pitched and work on your curve and other pitches so they become at par with your best pitches. Please tell me they are not trying to diminish his best pitches.
Besides if he was told him to do so, they have probably told all the other pitchers the same.

Potential is developped by pushing your limits.
In Wood's case, velocity did not seem to matter too much last time :10Ks in
5 IP, was very impressive.

Redmachine2003
04-16-2006, 11:46 AM
Wood's four seam is his mid 90 fastball so if he is working on his two seam fastball it would come in at 87-91 to get it to sink like it should. It the same style of pitching that the Cards teach. Don't throw as hard as you can and take a little off to locate and let the ball sink. Change speed to get your strike outs. Since our new owner is from the Cards he may bring some of their ideas over.

I hope it didn't sound like I was saying one was better than the other. I was just pointing out that Valiquette is off to a better start then he was last year at Dayton and that he has as much potential as Wood. :beerme: here is to hoping they both make it to the show with the Reds.

If Valiquette's stuff us as great as people say it is, then why doesn he get so few strikeouts? He's looked much better this year, but he's still only had like 2 K's.
