Bruce flied out to end the top of the 2nd. Ward gets the opposition out again. Dragons still up 4-0 after 2 innings.

Zach Ward is looking like Brandon Webb with that power sinker.

Nice to see Jay Bruce hitting well again.

2 walks with 2 outs followed by a double off of Ward to bring the score to 4-2 Dragons still on top.

Why does every pitcher in the Reds organization have trouble getting thta third out? Ward retired the first eight with ease, and then walked the No. 9 hitter and ends up giving up two runs because he failed to put away the worst hitter on the team.

04-14-2006, 07:18 PM
Jay Bruce is now 2-3 with a double and a triple, RBI and a run.
Dragons still up, 4-3 now. Ward surrendered a home run. Ward has 3 walks now, 9 ground outs and 1 fly out.

dougdirt
04-14-2006, 07:30 PM
Ward is now through 5, 3 runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts. 10 ground outs, 2 fly ball outs. Not a shabby 5 so far. BJ Szymanski has 2 strike outs and is hitting well below the mendoza line. Ward is done for the night.

Larue 0-1 so far for the Sarasota Reds.

Bruce singles in his 4th atbat. He needs a homer for the cycle.

That's good to hear about Vasquez. If his stuff is still in tact, the control is really the only thing holding him back up to this point. He seems to have improved that so far.

It looks like a pretty good night for Vasquez and Bruce and Ward. I am glad to see BJ Szymanski got a Homerun. How has he been looking so far this year?

Ward needs to turn it up a notch, he has been passed by Lecure at this point. He might be a bit rusty sitting out after he was drafted.

All four minor league teams lost tonight. Good nights, though, for Stratton (3 hits), Wagner (1.1 innings, three Ks), Vazquez and Jay Bruce. Particularly encouraging outing for Vazquez at High A.

Ward has definitely been a little shaky. His command has been pretty bad and he hasn't gotten many strikeouts so far. It's only two starts though. I agree about Lecure passing him though.

Why is Jeff Stevens in the Dayton bullpen? I thought he had a shot to be a starter in high A this year! What's the deal here?

It looks like a pretty good night for Vasquez and Bruce and Ward. I am glad to see BJ Szymanski got a Homerun. How has he been looking so far this year?

Szymanski has looked downright horrible this year so far. He has 18 strikeouts and just 5 hits in just 32 at bats....2 walks. Szymanski better turn it around, and turn it around fast. Vazquez is very suprising with his control so far and if he keeps it up, I would be quite the happy man. Bruce brought his average up over .300 tonight after it being at .200 just a few days ago. Gotta love early season batting averages.

Wonder how come Habelito Hernandez got sent down...I saw him play a few times, and thought he might eventually put it together. Guess not.
