Junior's knee is starting to worry me.I was worried before the season started. Counting on Jr to play more than 100 games seemed like a losing proposition. Now he has a leg problem that is "minor". Of course the Reds have never underplayed a Jr injury.

RedsManRick
04-15-2006, 01:52 PM
They just don't want to play Junior. "His power really is valuable coming off the bench." Narron was quoted as saying this morning. "Besides, if he plays, he might get hurt. This way we can keep him healthy."

Hey, at least they're consistent.

It's an injury and they just don't want to say so.

Someone cynical might say that they're going to keep him "day to day" through the weekend so that people planning to come to the ballpark for their short 3 game homestand don't potentially lose interest because Griffey is on the DL....

Oh yeah, and Sidney Ponson looks like Kurt Angle after a run in with a Chinese Buffet or four.

Historically, how many times has KGJr proven to management that he's not a pinch hitter? He even says it himself.... and I read somewhere that they listen to Jr. Hah!

Williams has ... absolutely nothing to get MLB hitters out. 81-84 MPH fastball and a mediocre 76 MPH change with little tumble. There is not enough separation between the fastball and change even if he could hit his spots.

Good grief the cards have a lot of chaff in their lineup.

I was thinking about that last night while reading back over the game thread when I got in.

Really, this isn't the same "marauder" lineup they fielded over the past few years, especially not when they lost to the Sox in the '04 series. That lineup was positively frightening -- where you (as a pitcher) had to go Walker, Pujols, Rolen, Edmonds right through the heart I think Fernando Vina was still around and making noise too.

Now, Pujols is still a monster and Rolen is on the comeback to that status -- but Edmonds just isn't the same (age catching up with him finally) and there's really nobody else in that lineup that makes you shake.

It's a lineup that a good pitcher should be able to get through, if you can avoid giving up free bases.
