Harangs delivery looks stiff.

The Reds design of the GAB should have widened the gaps, that's the one main design change I would want.

Bottom of 4.

Kearns. Makes an out. I would have been getting nachos if my office sold them.

Hatteberg (1-1). Runs the count full. Lined into right, base hit.

Encarnacion (BB). Fouled straight back. Another foul. Outside, a ball. Outside again, 2-2. Grounder to the left side, but Edwin avoids the DP. Force at second. Two outs.

LaRue(0-1). Four-pitch walk.

Ross pinch-hits for Harang. Aaron leaves: 4 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 3 HR. Dave takes ball one. Ball two, outside. Olivo to the mound. Ball three, outside. Ball four, low. Eight in a row out of the strike zone. Bases loaded, two out.

Freel (1-2). Called strike. Outside, a ball. Bouncer off Willis' leg, and everyone's going to be safe! Infield single, RBI.

5-1 Marlins.

Phillips (0-2). Ball's in the dirt, gets away from Olivo and Encarnacion scores with a headfirst slide! Wild pitch.

5-2 Marlins.

Phillips ahead 1-0. Swing and a miss. Ball two. LOOPER TO RIGHT, BASE HIT! Ross and Freel score, and it's 5-4! Brandon redeems himself for the twin Caseys.

5-4 Marlins.

Aurilia (1-2). Grounder ends the inning.

Still, it's a game! 5-4 Florida after 4.

Mike Gosling in the pen. He'll pitch the fifth.

Not impossible but you would be getting rid of a few rows of seats. Of course I'm not sure how moving the fences back helps when the balls are hit back in the 20th row of the bleachers.

Has a Reds pitcher ever done poorly, then NOT be hurt?

It seems like a pitcher will go for a couple months getting shelled, then ALL of a sudden, "Oh I'm hurt. Sorry for not telling you. My toenail hurts. I should have told someone."

So... the Reds suck so much that they can't get 5 runs with 17 outs left?

Or they suck so much that they can't keep the score at 5 on the defensive side?

If the latter was chosen please refrain from melting down at the offense over the next 5.1 innings.

A wrist-slashing epidemic breaks out on the game thread.

This team has bled me dry already with years of Lance Davises, Brian Reiths, Danny Serafinis, Josh Hancocks, Jose Acevedos and the aforementioned Jeff Austins. All you're going to get from me at this point is a shrug and a cursory glance at the minor league box scores.

None of what has transpired this season should've shocked anyone - when you're at the mercy of bad pitching you're going to have your good days, your bad days, and your days where both happen at the same time.

Top of 5. Let's see if Mike Gosling can get somebody out. He could be here just for today. And his wife's in Harvard Law School, so he could use the big-league cash.

First pitch popped into left-center by Josh Willingham, and Freel makes the catch. One out.

Jacobs (0-1, BB). Gosling drills him in the head, but it's only a glancing blow. One on, one out.

Olivo (1-2, HR). Fly to center, Freel's there. One foot on the track. Two down.

Cepicky (1-2). Low and away, ball one. Swing and a miss on the offspeed pitch. Called strike two. Struck him out swinging!

5-4 Marlins after 4.5.

Bottom of 5.

Dunn (0-1, BB) slaps one up the middle, but the shift enables Ramirez to make the pickup and throw him out. One down.

Kearns (0-2). Low, ball one. Ball two. Swing and a miss. Again. And a third time. Two outs. All fastballs.

Hatteberg (2-2). 1-1 pitch WHALED up the middle, but Willis snags it! Scotty's robbed of hit number three.

Top of 6. Gosling back to repeat it.

Abercrombie (2-2). Strike one. Always the best pitch. Abercrombie homers to the upper deck. Always the worst pitch.

6-4 Marlins. 493 feet on the homer. That's extremely scary for a number-eight hitter (http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/A/reggie-abercrombie.shtml) who spent last year in High-A and AA hitting like .260. The fourth-longest in the history of GABP.

Willis. Gosling walks him on four in a row.

Tom Hume heads to the mound. The bullpen starts up- my guess is Todd Coffey. I wait as Marty shills the Baseball 101 luncheon. No, it's Rick White.

Ramirez. Strike called. Foul. Count runs full. Chopper to Aurilia, and his only play is to first. One down.

Gosling yanked for White as Uggla steps in. Mike: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 1 HBP, responsible for the inherited runner. So make it two runs after White's work.

Uggla (2-3). 1-2 count after a foul. Grounded into left for a single, and Willis is held at third. Corners, still only one out.

Cabrera (1-3, HR). Uh-oh. Grounder to third, and EE tries to tag Willis, but misses him. Close play. Infield single will load the bases. Strange.

Willingham (0-3, ROE). Two batters faced by White, two hits. High and inside, ball one. Called strike. Strike two. Ball two. Slammed into center, base hit. Two runs score, as Uggla bowls over Jason LaRue.

8-4 Marlins. One run to Gosling, one to White.

Mile-high popup hit by Jacobs (0-2, HBP), and Rich Aurilia gloves it after teasing miscommunication with EE. Two outs.

Olivo (1-3, HR). Liner to left, base hit, but Dunn throws the runner out at the plate! Three outs.

8-4 Florida after 6.

The answer to the biggest and the smallest pitching problem and everything in between does not exist within the Reds' system. Improvement to this team's pitching (of any kind or degree) will have to come from without.

C'mon guys, don't you know the score doesn't matter much when choosing your relief pitcher, it's what inning your in?

I say bring Bailey up for a few weeks let him have a crack at doing something for us.... atleast we know he could get EVERYDAY an inning or so

that's an incredible bad idea.

Getting rid of Hancock looks real stupid about now.

Why? He'd have been awful if he was here too -- it's not enough that the veterans the Reds sign are awful, the young pitchers they have seem to get little to no instructional help and rarely improve while on the club.
