I bet if a Marlins hitter gets sent out after this series he'll complain about how tough the pitching is in AAA.

There is Che and Shafer in AA, but it is probably to early to call them up. Though Che has been dominating and Shafer has almost a year of AA experience. I would wait to July.

Bottom of 6. Reds need to finish Willis by making him work.

Encarnacion (0-1, BB). Ball one. Popped to the right side, caught by Uggla. One out.

LaRue (0-1, BB). Foul. Bouncer back to the mound, easy out. Two down.

McCracken hits for White. Called strike. Foul. Another. Swing and a miss.

That's not what I had in mind. Eight freakin' pitches.

8-4 Florida after 6. David Weathers in the Reds' pen.

I mean our pen comes in everygame and gives up 3 runs or more, with the exception of what????? 2 times this season?

Get some others up here and just SEE if MAYBE by some chance they find a grove and give us some quality innings.

An actual 1-2-3 inning for a Reds pitcher.

Doc. Scott
04-19-2006, 02:48 PM
Top of 7 impending.

Weathers (0-1, 5.79 ERA, 3 SV) now pitching for Cincinnati. Steve quickly reminds us that the last pitch he threw landed in Busch Stadium's left-field bleachers.

Cepicky (1-3). Lined to Dunn, right at him. One out.

Abercrombie (3-3, HR). Ball one. Check swing, ball two. Popup to shallow center, and Phillips makes the play. Two down.

Willis. No, it's Alfredo Amezaga to pinch-hit. Think Womack, but younger. Fly deep to right, and Kearns makes the catch on the warning track.

First 1-2-3 of the day on the weakest part of the order.

Marlins 8-4 after 6.5.

True that, my man. That would be a hell of an expierience for him too. Couldn't do us any worse than we are now, thats for sure.

The fact that people are even suggesting this is incredible.

1. It starts Bailey's arbitration clock, meaning he will be under our control for less time once he's actually ready to come up and pitch in the Major Leagues. What does that mean? Let's say Bailey turns into the next Roger Clemens. Means he's jumping for Yankees money or costing the Reds eight figures a year earlier. That's significant to a small market team.

2. The guy has, so far, not shown dominating stuff in the Minors. All that will happen if he comes up is he will most likely get slaughtered and lose his confidence. Ask the Kansas City Royals if you don't believe me. As Allan Ginsburg would say, "I saw some of the greatest arms of my generation ruined by morons rushing them to the big leagues."

Sad part is. You cant put our BEST Relievers out there everyday like we have too.

I mean yea.. if its for 1 inning. but once they go longer than that its hard to bring them out the next day especially against someone who's already seen them in the series.

As much as our bullpen is seen no wonder its hard to get outs... the Scouting report on our Bullpen has already filled up a 100 GB hard drive and a 500 page Book lmao

Every year since around 2002, I ask myself this question:

"Is there anything more demoralizing as a fan than watching a succession of pitchers take the mound who don't belong on a major league roster?"

And every year, I think to myself, "no, not that I know of."

It gets real, real old. I wish Krivsky the best in trying to get actual talent onto this staff. Harang's struggles today aside, I think the only pitchers on this staff that belong on a major league staff are:

Harang, Claussen, Arroyo, Coffey, Mercker and Weathers. Six. That's six. Out of 12. Just makes one weep. And, it means that if one of those six has an off-day, that it just simply compounds the problems because you just know that one of the six other pretenders on the staff likely will before they pitch again. Vicious, vicious cycle.

You mean 2001. 2002 was argueably the last "respectfull" Reds staff in terms of production, though it was a bit below normal. The 2001,03,04,05 and yes, probably 06 staff will be quite worse. Personally, I expected it this year and considering the ownership change and construction sign hanging on the FO, figure change will be slow, but steady.

Bottom of 7. Ricky Nolasco pitching for Florida. Acquired in the Juan Pierre deal from Chicago this past offseason. He's got a 1.80 ERA in three appearances.

Freel leading off (2-2, BB). Strike one. Ball one. Curve, strike two. Ball two. Foul off to the right. Hits him on the arm. Fourth time today Ryan's on base.

Phillips (1-3, 2 RBI). Lifted to shallow center, but Abercrombie can't make the shoestring catch! Base hit.

Two on, nobody out for the Straw.

Aurilia (1-3). Ball one. Fly to left, and Willingham is there. One out.

Dunn (0-2, BB). Here's our chance. Snap pickoff throw to second on ball one goes into center field, and both runners advance! Error on Olivo. Second and third. Chopper to the right side, and Uggla throws him out, but Freel scores. 8-5 Marlins.

"Clutch". Right?

Reds pitching staff has allowed twenty-six homers. Guess what spot in MLB that's good for.

Kearns (0-3, 2 K). He's due. Phillips at third, two out. Breaking ball, strike. Way inside, 1-1. Swing and a miss on the breaking ball. 1-2. Another bender, down and away. Count evens, 2-2. Fly to shallow right, and Uggla makes the play.

8-5 Florida after 7.

Top of 8. Weathers back out there.

Missed the play, but Ramirez drops a double into center. I'm sure the other posters will describe it.

Uggla pops up trying to bunt. One out.

Intentional pass to Cabrera. Fairly wise.

Willingham (1-4, 2 RBI). Strike. Check swing ball. Ball two. Strike two called. Ball three. Annnnd he walks.

Bases loaded, one out. Only one of those baserunners is really Weathers' fault, and that's Willingham.

Jacobs takes ball one, then a strike. Swing and a miss. STRUCK HIM OUT SWINGING! Two outs.

Olivo (2-4, HR). Strike called. Foul, strike two. Ball. Another foul. Liner CAUGHT by Brandon Phillips! Hit hard, too.

Weathers wriggles out of the jam. 8-5 Florida after 7.5.

One thing overlooked is that a guy as big as Dunn provides a very large target for infielders throwing to first. His size alone would allow him to get to several otherwise errant throws.

As someone who played short and third clear through high school, having a tall first baseman sure does help in making throws over there. It changes mentally when you look over at first and see a short guy there. You become aware of the level of preceision you must have in your throws and that's not a good thing,

I put it on the guys in charge, they wan't a "sure" glove guy at 1st, that's why Hatteberg is there, the trouble is Hatte isn't a good glove anymore.

Seems you'd want a sure glove guy in the outfield more so than at first base.

I do tend to be idiotically optimistic. I'm hoping we can bring Milton back on one day rest to pitch to us in the 8th and 9th.

Doc. Scott

Bottom of 8. Eric Reed now in center, Abercrombie moves to right, Cepicky out. Nolasco still pitching.

Hatteberg (2-3). Ball one. Breaking ball misses, 2-0. Ball three. And Scotty walks.

Encarnacion up as Todd Coffey begins studying his spellbook in the bullpen. Strike to EE. Strike two. Just inside, a ball. Grounder BY THE DIVING CABRERA and down the LF line! Edwin is held to a single as they hold the leadfooted Hatteberg (HELLLOOOOOO! WOMACK???!!!) at second.

Matt Herges (he's still around?) warming in the Marlins pen.

LaRue (0-2, BB). 1-1 count. Called strike two. Low, ball two. BASE HIT TO LEFT! Bases loaded as the hold the the leadfooted Hatteberg (HELLLOOOOOO! WOMACK???!!!) at third.

Felipe Lopez on to pinch-hit for Weathers. I was honestly expecting to see Womack.

Out comes Joe Girardi to change pitchers. He replaces the right-hander Nolasco with the right-hander Herges. Hmmm. Can't say that reeks of brilliance, switch-hitter up or no. Oh, the Marlins have no lefties. Man, that's weird, considering there's an ex-catcher managing.

Lopez. Swing and a miss. Another swing and a miss. Grounder up the middle, deflected by Herges, but everyone's gonna be safe, then the wild throw by Uggla to the plate enables another run to come in! 8-5 becomes 8-7!

LaRue goes to third, Felipe to second, still nobody out! That's the third error on Florida today.

Freel (2-3, BB, HBP). Ball one. Strike looking. Ball two, in the dirt. Grounder by the mound, and the runners are hung up! LaRue is out at the plate, Lopez goes to third, and Freel to second. Fielder's choice, nobody scores, one out.

Phillips (2-4, 2 RBI). Swing and a miss. Strike two, fastball. In the dirt, ball one. Grounder up the middle, picked up by Ramirez for the 6-3 but the tying run will score! Two outs. Three RBI for Brandon. Freel stays at second.

8-8.

Straw (1-4), with a chance to show off that vaunted Clutchness. Naturally, this is pointed out by Marty. Ball one, inside. Bounced foul. Popup is caught to end the inning.

Todd Coffey will be on to face Reed, Abercrombie, and the pitcher's spot in the ninth.

He made a simple comment and it's taken over the gamethread. I'm sorry, but that's not right. He made a nasty and spiteful comment that had nothing to do with the game. He doesn't like Bowden, we've known that for years.

Why do I get the feeling that today's game thread is going to result in another sticky being posted on the main board?

I'm going to need to smuggle in alcohol to my office for these day games considering our bullpen.

Hi all. Just dropped by to see how the pitchers duel between Harang and Willis is going.

Brandon Phillips has looked pretty good since joining the Reds.

You are right. He has pleasantly surprised me with his play early.
