First Cougars hitter pops up to shallow CF to second baseman DeJesus. Base hit by Sellers. BJ Szymanski drops a line drive and now there are runners at first and second. Official scorer calls it a hit, announcers are baffled as to how it was scored as a hit. Check swing grounder to the pitcher. runners advance to second and third. Sarasota
Sam Lecure gives up 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk in the 3rd inning. Phillip Hughes gets 3 outs without allowing a run in the top of the 4th, Reds down 3-2.

Kozlowski hasn't looked good this year. He's been struggling in his move to the bullpen.

Nothing better than seeing a position player pitch. Buchanon pitched the ninth for Louisville today. Gave up a solo HR, but managed to stike out some poor soul too.

Ohhhh how that brings back the memories of Derek Bell aka. Operation Shutdown. I could never forget seeing that man on the mound with his sunglasses. How could I almost forget Mark Grace.

Got back from Dayton - Fisher was bringing it - but so was the Kane County pitcher... it was definitely a pitcher's duel. The game winner was a Mosby HR (he has to be the biggest player I have ever seen in a Dragons uni) in the 7th. Good win for Dayton - Vanderwood, the Dragons announcer, said that Kane County was the best hitting team in the MWL. I think there was only 9 hits between both of the teams.

BTW, Birdzerk was the entertainment for the day.

Will be there on Wednesday to see Wilson pitch - then on Friday.

Is it just me or is Ben Kozlowski's TJ comeback looking like a bust right now?

I saw him last year when Dayton was up here, and he scored from 1st, IIRC. It was pretty funny watching the 3rd base coach waving him around and him chugging toward home. Good stuff. Nice to see him with a HR today.

Just as an FYI, West Tenn and Chattanooga played a doubleheader because of Friday's game being suspended due to rain. West Tenn won Game 1 5-4 Box Score (http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=g_box&gid=2006_04_21_wtdaax_cngaax_1).

Dragons' pitching shows plenty of promise in 2-1 victory
Carlos Fisher, an 11th-round draft pick, has second straight scoreless outing.
By Marc Katz

Staff Writer

DAYTON | Suddenly, what has been a pitcher-poor Reds organization looks to be top-heavy — in pitchers.

At least that was the impression left by two excellently pitched games by the Dayton Dragons the last two days, topped by right-hander Carlos Fisher's gem Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.

Fisher produced the longest Dragons' outing of the season, going an out and three batters into the seventh inning, of what became a 2-1 Dayton victory over Kane County in a Class A Midwest League game.

Not only was Fisher excellent — three singles, one walk and nine strikeouts — Blake Hendley, just in from Sarasota, closed out the game allowing only one run, that scoring on a ground out.

For Fisher — an 11th-round pick from last summer's free-agent draft — it was a second straight scoreless outing.

He went six innings at Quad City five days before, also earning the victory.

"I'm just getting comfortable," Fisher said. He had allowed nine runs in 91/3 innings over his first two starts.

"And the weather is better, too," he said.

If the weather is warmer, the Dragons are hot. Not only did they win their second straight game, but they have five victories over their last seven games. Much of it is due to the pitching, which has allowed 18 runs over the seven games.

"Our starters are real strong," Fisher said. "Every guy is quality. From what I've seen around the league, we're as good as any team."

Pitching at Billings, Mont., last year, Fisher was stuck in the tandem pitching rotation, throwing from the bullpen every other game and being held to 75 pitches as a starter.

As an everyday starter and without the hard pitch count, it's easier, he said.

"In the back of your mind, you want a chance to get the win," Fisher said.

Dragons tales

Unable to get a backup catcher in time for the game, it was decided to wait to see how long Craig Tatum would be out with a slight concussion from Saturday. If he's okay, he'll be available tonight. ... For the second straight game, the Dragons used only two pitchers. ... At 2:26, it was also the shortest game of the season so far.
