I just realized that RFK reminds me of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium

I got to see some really bad things happen at AFC. 1990 was the year Ernest (not the GOOD Ernest, like in Ernest T Bass, but the Jim Varney Ernest) was the official spokesperson for the Braves.

That was not a good thing.

So what's your projection of him over this season?

Great question. If he can put 4 maybe 5 starts of similar fashion together and then make adjustments he could be a surprise. If you remember he could not control his 2 seam/sinker last year and got ripped repeatedly 2-0 and 2-1.

From what I saw last week and tonight he is throwing with more confidence and more imprtantly not relying on ONE pitch. He has an above average curve and has learned to chage speeds with a little slider. He set himself up for failure against Soriano to start the game but you could almost sense that he was going to pull it together. He did a real nice job getting Church to pop up on a FASTBALL in with 2 runners on. Those are big league pitches. Great job overall.

Well, clearly he could surprise if he puts together some good starts. I'm asking what is your assessment. Do you think he's going to do what he did last year and fall apart after a couple of good starts, or has he figured it out and will be an effective stating pitcher this year?

The Nats announcers are drooling all over the Liz....but if he pitches this game anywhere but RFK, I think he is boxed and shelved by about the 4th inning. Lots of well hit balls on both sides that died on the warning track.

So I hope the Reds don't run the Liz out there in Philly or GAB or other small park venues.....

Nice PBP guys - extra points to Krono and Raisor for the Batman references.

Also, I see the innuendos were low tonight - Lizard King strikes again.

Just got back from the Dragons game. Jay Bruce is going to be a decent ballplayer. BJ Szymanski's gonna be Dayton fodder for a while. Zach Ward had a little problem with his control.

Perhaps my memory is failing me, but I do not recall Livan being a mid to low 80s fastball guy. He kept us off balance changing speeds after the first few innings, but my goodness, he has a better fastball than that, doesn't he? He's been on the risk list for being overworked for two years running, perhaps his overwork has finally caught up with him.

What Lizard did tonight that impressed me were the 90-92 inside fastballs under the armpits of the lefties after they were teeing off on him in the first. That, and he kept the ball down more often than not. That is where his control can make him effective, if he can pinpoint pitches just off the plate in and out like he did tonight. I still think he could turn into a serviceable starter. I like the idea of giving him some time in the bullpen and moving Belisle into the rotation, though. Minimize his exposure, let him bask in the glory of a great outing tonight for awhile.

I was at the game tonight in DC. Although my seats weren't the best, they were behind home plate, and I did get to see Ramirez's stuff. His fastball was still fairly straight, but his location was great, as everyone has observed. He gave up a couple of hard hit balls that might have been out in GABP, but the Reds had a few like that, as well. On balance, I thought the Lizard pitched as well as I've seen him pitch. He's probably not as good as he was tonight in a hitter-friendly ballpark or against a better offensive team, but he was solid.

As for tomorrow night, DC is supposed to get rain in the evening. I'm not sure how the game will turn out. If Williams can get healthy anywhere, it is in RFK. The park is huge. You get a feel for the size of the park when you see the ball get pounded like it was a few times tonight only to see it reach the warning track.

I was at the game tonight in DC. Although my seats weren't the best, they were behind home plate, and I did get to see Ramirez's stuff.

There was a solid Reds contingent there last night. Our section was almost entirely Reds fans.

And, yes, RFK is monstrous. there were at least three balls i saw hit that would have been no-doubt homers in just about any other park, but not RFK. They all seemed to land about a foot in front of the warning track.
