My biggest gripe with Krivsky is his not having traded Valentin during ST for anything with a pulse.

I guess I can't complain too much about Valentin's at bat since it looks like he had a good ball to hit, but Aurilia's at bat was underwhelming.

Those were two awful AB after the pitching change. Valentin swings at the first pitch and Aurilia tries to weakly punch at a ball about 6 inches off the plate.

It was a bad called third strike on Freel and a bad strike one on Dunn, but it's not been that bad the whole game, and the way Qualls was throwing, there's still a good chance the Reds don't score there. I think it's a little, no a lot, overdramatic saying the umps cost the Reds the game.

Not a bad game though. Excellent series, that's what is most important. Taking 2 of 3 over the Astros while only giving up 10 runs in 3 games is a very good sign from this pitching staff. I'm confident the Reds will be right back on track on offense when Griffey returns.

Here comes the Javy bashing. Maybe if he got some at bats once in awhile he would hit like last year.

The chance that Valentin would reproduce his 2005 numbers this season were exceptionally remote. That being said, Valentin has received MORE playing time than he did last season- not less.

Kc61
04-30-2006, 04:08 PM
I fear that Larue and Valentin (especially Javy) will suffer with the three catcher alignment. I don't believe JV suddenly forgot how to hit after a "career year." But you can't expect him to hit Brad Lidge after sitting all week. JV didn't seem to have his timing today.

I don't really care which of them goes, but JL or JV should catch most days with Ross the backup. I would hope for a trade of the third guy relatively soon.

And if JV has more at bats this year, they mostly came at the very beginning. Lately he has hardly played at all.

And Valentin isn't going to play much going forward as long as he can't hit from the right side- particularly if Dave Ross is going to be catching all of Arroyo's games. Such is the life of a backup Catcher. That being said, it isn't playing time that's going to help improve Valentin's numbers- it's going to be sitting him against every southpaw on the planet.

Too many innings too young. He was Dusty'ed. Or it might just be an early season slump.

I'm confident the Reds will be right back on track on offense when Griffey returns.

I'm not so sure that's going to be the best thing. I know he's great and he's getting back to his old form. But he's a middle-of-the-order guy and we're stacked there. I'm more concerned that he'll hurt us defensively (Freel's better in CF) and we won't have that solid leadoff guy anymore (no one starts the offense like Freel--except does anyone think Phillips could do it??)

I wasn't aware the offense was OFF track.

Didn't you see the game today? They are in a deep teamwide slump...the only thing left to do is cut EE/Lopez/Freel and hope against hope that is enough to stem the bleeding...

Here comes the Javy bashing. Maybe if he got some at bats once in awhile he would hit like last year.

What? He's played in 15 games and had 50 ABs.

Dave Ross: 9 games, 25 ABs.
Jason LaRue: 6 games, 22 ABs.

If you're wrong(and I hope you are), then be prepared to have a certain someone throw it back in your face after the game. :p: He always does it to me when I miss on a prediction.

You just don't get it do you?

Nothing to do about today's game, but I just got in and started reading this thread.

People are wrong all the time and predictions are often wrong. Happens to everyone.

But you seem to make the same prediction over and over after we get off to a slow start to a game. Whenever we give up early runs you usually proclaim the game is over and our chances of winning are slim and none. This season you have been wrong just about every time. You think you would stop posting so emotionally when you are often wrong.

All I'm saying is there is no need to act so emotionally over small samples. For instance, today after one inning the Lizard looked awful. He couldn't finish anyone off and had already given up a 2-run homer. Yet at the end of the day he turned in a respectable performance. To be honest after watching the 1st inning I thought he was going to get shelled, but things happen that we don't always expect.

Here's an idea. I'll post the way I want and mind my own business. You post the way you want and stop trying to tell me how I should post.

I've been known to overreact a time or two early in the game, I'll admit that. But last time I checked that wasn't against the rules of the board. If the mods find something wrong with my posts, then I'll gladly change my style. I won't for you.

That's really not your decision to make. When you start your own board you can decide what's "needed" and not needed.

Are you not doing the same thing? Take your own advice.

You act like a crying baby everytime the Reds give up a run. You whine more than my little sister. I wouldn't want to look silly making bone-head predictions every single game, but hey that's your call.

Why don't you let the mods do their job.

Looks like I'm going to have to use the ignore feature for the first time.
