I don't mind it if the REDS have their better pitchers with cnofidence pitching at Pujols. No one in the game is untouchable and as pointed out in the STATS yesterday Pujols doesn't always put the ball into play. In that case why would you put someone on base when you have to get the next guy out anyway. It's not like you have a pitcher batting behind him.

The fascinating thing about the Cardinals is not that they have a better offense than the Reds, but that they have a more opportunistic offense--they seem to have a much better sense of when to swing the bat within a pitcher's pitching sequence. The Reds have a sense of that too, but the Cardinals seem to know "when" to swing in addition to knowing when not to swing.

The fascinating thing about the Cardinals is not that they have a better offense than the Reds, but that they have a more opportunistic offense--they seem to have a much better sense of when to swing the bat within a pitcher's pitching sequence. The Reds do too, but the Cardinals seem to know "when" to swing in addition to knowing when not to swing.

That's a fair assessment. Much as I hate LaRussa, his team's are exceptionally well-schooled. I've come to believe that his teams have benefitted greatly from superior advance scouting. Hard to prove, but his club's seem to be better prepared for what they're going to see each and every night.
