LaRussa usually gives most of the regulars the day off on day games following night games. Pujols usually plays though. Edmonds and Rolen would almost always get this day off.

Okay, FCB's turn to be crabby granny. I was wondering if a sticky could be created for a separate thread dealing with cable/satellite questions. There's a high, high volume of said posts within game threads asking, invariably, the same or the same kinds of questions related to TV/game issues. It wouldn't be a problem for me personally if it wasn't the exact same questions/gripes over and over and over. I think this issue needs a sticky or a FAQ.

I know some of you get sick of hearing about Rich or Womack, but personally, I'm downright tin-eared from the constant moaning about MLB TV, satellite, black outs and everything else technology-related and not, ultimately, game-related.

traderumor

man, that is a boone sunday special if you ever saw one from the Cards. I know 10 people have already mentioned it, but goodness that's bad (guaranteeing 10 runs of output). The funny thing is, The Cards are really going to need for their pitching to live up to the billing. Their lineup just isn't very good over the long haul and you have to figure Pujols is done seeing much to hit until the rest of the lineup shows they can consistently do damage.

Yes - but shouldn't first base, thoertically, be scoring position for your 5th place hitter (at least some of the time)?? I mean Dunn is batting ahead of him and has an OBP over .400 so I'd like my number 5 hitter to drive him in once in awhile at least.

Don't get me wrong, Hatteberg is what he is, and his base hits and walks have helped this team a ton. But I wanted it pointed out that as well as he is playing people should not view him as a long term solution. And I guarantee some on here look at the BA and the OBP and view him as just that (in a platoon, but still, as a solution)

True, but even if he was a HR hitter he wouldn't have that many RBI with so few opportunities.

Not that I am advocating SH as a long term solution for anything.

BRM
05-02-2006, 12:28 PM

Has there ever before been a major league game with both cleanup hitters named Encarnacion?

Nope. The only years it could have happened were last year and 1997 the year Juan made his debut with Detroit. While Juan appeared in a game in September against the Angels with Angelo Encarnacion, neither was in the clean-up spot. It doesn't look like Juan or Eddie played in the same game last year, nor that Encarnacion batted in that spot during any of those games. Good question though.

flyer85
05-02-2006, 12:31 PM
Hatteberg isn't going to drive in many from 1st or drive himself in either. He is a slap hitting, extremely slow poor fielding first basemen who walks a fair amount. However, his extremely slow speed and propensity for hitting in DPs negate a lot of his decent OBP.

Dave Williams walks Molina and his .338 OPS. He should be pulled fromt the game for that. Seriously.

I'm thinking Dave Williams is a double agent on the payroll of all the other NL Central teams.

He needs to be subjected to a Jack Bauer-style interrogation:
"WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR?! Is it the Astros? The Cubs? It's LaRussa isn't it? Who?!"

For the umpteenth time,salary dump.

For the umpteenth time, that doesn't matter. It was great to get the salary relief and the space to play the 4 (even though it didn't turn out that way it was still a good thought, late, but a good thought.

The problem is now that you have him he hurts your team. A salary dump does not get back players who make you worse just by having them. Williams makes the Reds worse. I know his numbers said league average, but in this ballpark with this defense he is Jimmy Anderson. That is the problem
