Runner should have been picked off but Claussen has a bad throw to Aurilia then Aurilia makes an even worse throw and throws the ball into left field. Freeman goes to 3rd.

Non-Colorado pitchers routinely lose their stuff by the 5th inning. Time to get the bully up and running. They're plenty rested.

Francis can routinely hit 92. Claussen 89. Claussen dreams of being in Francis's class.

Has Francis routinely hit 92 tonight? I've seen them both around the 87 MPH mark so far with the fastball and around 74-77 with the slower stuff. But I have missed some of the game.

don't get me wrong, kid's raw, but the choice here is obvious to me.......

Santana when he's on = Unhittable, period.
Francis when he's on = dominant, but not unhittable like santana, his change is absolutely video gameish

I think the manlove for Francis is getting a little absurd. Obviously a great talent, but we cannot compare him to Unit, Johan, Zito, Buerhle, Willis, etc until he gets a chance to pitch consistently outside of Denver. That's almost like comparing Helton to Gehrig.

But I know half of the posts were made in case Wayne is watching...

The Reds are in their version of a offensive slump. I can only give Francis so much credit, they simply aren't hitting the ball overly well right now. Though we have lucked out into better pitching over the last few games which has blurred it out some and kept the wins coming.

TheBigLebowski
05-03-2006, 10:38 PM
Ok....hate to open the door while FCB is drooling in front of the computer, but here's a bit of a reality check on Jeff Francis.

2005 - Francis was in the rotation the entire year. Here are his splits:

Home: 8-4 record in 87 IP. 62 K's, 25 BB's. 4.88 ERA. .308 ba.
Away: 6-8 record in 97 IP. 66 k's, 45 BB's. 6.40 ERA. .313 ba.

So much for the hypothesis that sea level pitching would make him better than Santana and Willis. Guy had a nice game against us tonight. Let's not overreact.

So I don't suppose any of you are convinced at the tsunami of evidence pertaining to pitchers leaving Coors and performing infinitely better at sea level--and not resting on the notion that the "splits" somehow reveal how a pitcher would do throwing 159 games at sea level. "Splitting" home and away at Coors reveals about as much about the potential of a pitcher at sea level as the color of the pitcher's boxers.
