Jeez Narron put in Deno... that's such a dumb decision. Let's see what the kid can do with a few consecutive games. No better time than right now.

Unreal.

Denorfia has a nice game and gets benched the next game in favor of Quinton freakin' McCracken.

Kearns has a nice game and is dropped in the lineup.

Webb, the Arizona pitcher, is very tough on right handed hitters, with a 1.35 ERA, 15 strikeouts and 2 walks. This explains the lineup, along with the need to rest Phillips who has cooled off.

Many problems with this lineup.

McCracken should be emergency insurance, Deno should get all starts possible.

Narron wants to put the lefties in. The problem is not that McCracken is in the lineup...it's that he's on the roster.

I'd really like to hear his reasoning behind playing QM over Deno.

Why do I think I'd hear some combination of "solid, veteran, and knows how to play the game?"

As much goodwill as JN has garnered with me for the club's hot start, line-ups like this cause those feelings to dissipate quickly.

Agreed. And Hattie at cleanup with Ground Ball pitcher Webb on the mound has GIDP written all over it.

McCracken needs to play in certain oppurtunities if you wanna keep him on this roster. I'm not one that wants him here, but if you are gonna keep him as a key pinch hitter he needs at bats

WMR

No doubt. Not to mention, you couldn't create a better scenario--not that Jr. being injured is good, mind you--wherein Deno should legitimately be getting a real 'look.'

Why not give the youngster a chance to shine?

Oh well, hopefully QM will hit one out.

A few "quality start" tidbits as we wait for tonight's titantic struggle...

* The REDS have had 8 quality starts in their last ten games. Their team record in those 10 games is 8-2. Not whatcha might think... they won both games in which the starter did not have a quality start and lost two quality start games. Buchholz (HOU) and Francis (COL) were part of the reason for the losses in which Ramirez & Claussen had a QS go to waste. The REDS had won the last 9 games in which the REDS starter had a QS before the Ramirez loss to HOU.

* The REDS have had 6 straight quality starts from their starters. The longest streak of QS last year was 8 games (Aug. 6- Aug. 14). They also had a streak of 6 straight QS last year (Aug. 18 - Aug. 24). August 2005 was a good month for the starters... 3.84 ERA and 16 QS in 27 games.

* The REDS have 17 quality starts this year after 29 games (58.6%). The team is 14-3 when they get a QS. In 2005 the REDS had 10 QS after 29 games (34.5%). In 2004 they had 12 QS after 29 games (41.4%).

* REDS starter - Games Started - Quality Starts - QS%
> Ramirez - 2GS - 2QS - 100%
> Arroyo - 6GS - 5QS - 83.3%
> Milton - 3 GS - 2QS - 66.7%
> Harang - 7GS - 4QS - 57.1%
> Williams - 5GS - 2QS - 40.0%
> Claussen - 6GS - 2QS - 33.3%

Webb's had a .569 ops against RH hitters last year, .830 vs. LH hitters.

You need to stack the lineup with LH hitters to stand much of a chance. And I don't think that Arizona has a LH pitcher on the roster, so you can stack them.

If there's any game that McCracken should play instead of Denorfia, this would be it.

Still......

And Oliver Perez is one of the worst pitchers in baseball. What a fluke year in 04.

I see a lot of pitchers being listed, but only a few of them pitching well enough to be considered a top 5 this season, like Brandon Webb.

This offense (aside from Lopez) isn't slumping. They've been facing very, very tough pitching. And when they don't face tough pitching, like Josh Fogg, they pummel it. And even when they face good pitching, they pummel it more than half the time.

Quick update from today's Baseball America...not that I have much hope after shoulder issues.

RED HOTS

• Righthander Richie Gardner, one of the club’s many pitching prospects whose career has been derailed by injuries, was set to begin throwing off a mound in extended spring training. He’s recovering from August shoulder surgery.

• Righthander Thomas Pauley, a second-round pick in 2003, will join Gardner in extended spring training as he, too, recovers from August shoulder surgery.

RedsMan3203

Why?

Im not the baseball type of person to ask why. I don't know why, I just know i'm worried about him. To me he seems like he is struggling really, really bad. Last really good game I remember him having, is in Chi-Town when he hit that 3-run bomb. Other then a steal here or there.. There hasn't been much production from him this year (like we really need him to do that much)

His throws are always low, and i mean 90% of the time I see them toward the dirt... I don't know...

I love him to death - but I dont' know.

Another update...Milton Loo is ranked as the 4th best JC prospect.

In a draft short on position players, Reds ninth-round pick Milton Loo stands out as a player who would add a toolsy infielder to a thin crop. The Yavapai (Ariz.) CC player, whom the Reds also drafted in 2004 in the 17th round out of a Hawaiian high school, has battled an elbow injury late in the spring that limited him to DH but was cleared to play for Yavapai in the postseason.

Loo hit .343 with five home runs this spring after hitting .404 in 2005. He has enough athleticism to play shortstop but has played third in deference to a superior defender, teammate Troy Hanzawa, and has become adept at the hot corner in a short time. He's average or better across the board, showing intriguing power potential the last two years in the Arizona CC Athletic Conference, which uses wood bats. One scout compared his overall package to that of Tony Graffanino, though some have been troubled in the past by his inconsistent effort, and by the fact he turned down a low-six-figures signing bonus last year.

The trifecta for Javier.

1. Being waved on Kearns should-be triple, stays at third.

2. Should have been running on the contact play with defense back, out at home.

3. As they are talking about his bad baserunning, the cameras pan in on him sitting on the bench with his index finger two knuckles deep in the left nostril.
