Good to see Kearns moving ahead of Hatte. If EE continues with his discipline, he would make a pretty sick 2nd hitter.

Given the players that are starting, that's just about how I'd order the lineup.

Kudos to Narron for not shooting himself in the foot and batting Phillips and his .330 on-base percentage 2nd in the order. With Brandon's inability to take a walk and get on base at a solid clip, he belongs batting 7th, though his solid slugging percentage will continue to be an asset that low in the order.

Hatteberg's OPS is heavy on the OBP side and thin on the SLG side, while Phillips' OPS is heavy on the SLG side and thin on the OBP side. Solid OBP batting in front of solid SLG is a nice formula for run scoring, and it makes perfect sense to bat Hatteberg in front of Phillips. Let Hatteberg get on base, and allow Phillips to move Hatteberg around the bases and/or in to the plate.

That all said, we need to come away with a win here and take the series. Despite how ugly the team looked on Tuesday night, if we take two of three from Washington there shouldn't be many complaints overall for the series.

Just noticed that the Astros had to pull Lidge and let Wheeler get the last out of the game after he walked three in the inning. I don't know if we have anything Houston wants, but with his stuff, I'd certainly check into seeing if they want to give him a change of scenery.

Might that help to contribute to his psychological woes? I'm pretty sure your confidence doesn't increase when a team gives up on you. Depending on the price, it might be worth checking out, but that price better be bargain basement. Typical risk vs. reward situation.

Not really. Day is a pretty bad pitcher.

370 hits allowed in 358 career innings, a 1.49 WHIP, and a very bad 165 bb/182 k rate.
Unfortunately, the Reds are making him look like a great pitcher tonight, but against everybody else he is pretty bad.

Another thing I really like about Bronson is he doesn't mess around. He goes to the mound and gets it done without a lot of fluff between pitches.

This home plate umpire really really is bad.

PS - I'm absolutely amazed that BA has short sleeves on tonight!

Nice "D" Ears to end the inning.

We've seen some really nice defensive plays in this game (even from Dunn). ;)

The ability to not only get on baseb, but to steal and manufacture run(s) is gonna be the game winning factor tonight IMO with strong pitching performances being turned in.

Sportswriters sometimes have short memories where Pedro is concerned. He did fairly ok in the AL too. Arroyo wasn't crap either, he was just ready to come into his own I think.
