I kinda like him behind Dunn. He should see some good pitches since the pitcher might relax after facing the Donkey and leave one up for AK. I really have no problems with this lineup other than I thought Javy always caught the Lizard?

Good point. Why change up something that is working? Is the Brewers pitcher a lefty?

What has Aurilia done not to bat cleanup when he's in the lineup?

Both logics make sense, but I have no problem with it.

Aurilia's HR and RBI pro-rated to the # of AB's Kearns and Dunn have would look pretty good. He's shown an ability to drive in runs. That's what you want out of the 4th hitter, regardless of his name.

Yes, Eveland is a lefty. Ross caught last night, its LaRue's turn.

I'm wondering what the wait is on Valentin. I have a feeling he's next on the hit parade after White & Burns & McCracken.

Speaking Eveland - He's the Brewers' Dave Williams. Yikes - Lefties .364 BA/.916 OPS and righties .303 BA/.880 OPS against him.

Tonight Felipe needs to show that he can lead a team. Javy was the one to go out to the mound when Elizardo got rattled and calm him down. With LaRue behind the plate tonight Felipe needs to be the one to go calm him down. At 23 Elizardo still needs someone to be a "father figure" while on the field. Felipe is only 26, but as the SS of team tonight is the night he needs to show he can be a leader.

Hmmm...maybe I missed something.

It adds some more pop toward the bottom of the lineup though. Hard to pitch around anyone tonight.

Over his last seven games, Rich Aurilia is sporting a hefty .547 OPS.

Small sample, of course, but when there are better options available, it doesn't make much sense to bat him in the cleanup spot.

Hopefully some hits fall in for him, or flashes some of his slugging flair.

Eveland is listed as 220 pounds (http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/players/playerpage/547371) on CBS Sportsline and 258 pounds (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=6353)on ESPN. Either way, he looks to be something of a power pitcher, which is a relief because we can't ever hit the guys who throw 84 and have moxie and chutzpah.

Given that Eveland seems to be rather well-fed and is from Olympia, I'm picturing a hippie-r King Hippo.

It seems that way to me too. The Reds do seem to do much better against power pitchers than guys who throw junk.

Off the top fo my head, I can think of at least six plays that were called against the Reds this year when it was quite obvious the call was wrong.

1. Dunn RBI single vs Mike Gonzalez. Ump ruled it a catch when it clearly was trapped. Thankfully the umps got together and overruled it.

2. Three times Lopez has been called out at second base on a steal attempt...all three times the replays have shown him to be safe.

3. Freel was called out on a caught stealing at 3rd base. Once again replay shows it wasn't even close.

4. Carlos Lee check swing that just cost the Reds three runs.

Not to mention all the low strike calls on Adam Dunn this season. I know umpiring is hard, but some of these calls weren't all that hard.

No.

It would have been out number three, so essentially it cost the Reds three runs. Ramirez didn't do himself any favors with that fat pitch to Fielder, but that call hurt.

No it didn't. The umpire made a bad call, happens all the time as you say. He then threw two straight balls to Lee and pretty much teed one up for Fielder. The ump had absolutely nothing to do with that.

Well, I know that. But that doesn't tell the whole story.

90 MPH fastball with little movement but well placed so far. Late breaking curve that tails 10-4 on the clock. The breaking ball is good when he places it well, but a couple I've seen so far are bending around the plate rather than over it. Get the call on those and you'll be ok because it's pretty much unhittable. Location location location.

Haven't seen much else from him. He'll start hanging some curves soon and he's allowed 5 baserunners in 3 IP so far.

Jeffrey Hammonds three homers, Casey two, and the great Brian Johnson with one.

IIRC, the Reds later that year scored 20 something runs in a game.

Yep, just found it. 22 runs scored in Philadelphia in September of that year. The Reds either tied or broke the NL record by hitting nine home runs in that game.

The guy has a 5:1 k/bb rate in the minors, yet is almost 1:1 in the bigs. I realize the guy doesn't have a finish pitch yet to get more k's, but what's the cause for such a big chasm in his control?
