In franchise history, the Reds have never been swept at home with 3 straight shut outs.

Let's hope that stands today.

Enrique Gonzalez pitched in the Winter League with La Guaira (Rey Olmedo and Bob Stratton's team)

6-2 (10 starts) 3.10 ERA.

Hopefully Olmedo was contacted to relay information about the guy.

Yup, a better lineup would be Freel in Left and Dunn at first, leaving Kearns in right.

I don't like it because Kearns isn't in it.

Kearns hasn't had a blow in a while and he needs to be sharp for the cubbies.

Personally, I'd prefer to see Hat in there vs. the rookie (make him work) and this Aurilia cleanup stuff has to stop.

On the flip side, 'zona is loaded with lefties, so Bronson has to be on the top of his game.

That was a play that most average MLB CF's make, most likely standing up. It was a fairly routine fly ball that Junior simply didn't get to.

IMO, Junior is being incredibly selfish with his insistence on only playing CF. It's ridiculously clear that the overall team defense would benefit with someone with a better set of wheels in center right now.

Here's the problem: If you call-out Junior for his selfish stance on this issue, you get labeled a "Griffey Basher" and everyone starts talking about his off-field kindness.

To me, those are totally separate issues. Junior appears to be a kind, caring, charitable man who is very close with his family and friends. Seems like a good guy. However, good guys can still make selfish/poor decisions. I think Junior is flat-wrong on this issue, but it doesn't change my opinion of him as a human being.

I don't think Jr.'s got much of anything to do with it. I doubt the subject even gets broached with him. Probably there's a trade that needs to happen before the team considers moving him to another position (maybe it's even a trade of Jr. that they're angling for sometime this summer).

My guess is Jr.'s view is that he's the CF until otherwise notified and that he's not going to beg off the position if the team wants him to be there. If the Reds really wanted to make the switch, all they'd have to do is go to Jr. and tell him it was time to move. I doubt he'd complain about it. He strikes me as the sort who just tries to do the best at whatever he's asked to do.

Sure trade an OF for pitching by all means, just don't trade a quality hitter in search of someone to do the same job (which is what you were advocating, trading for a hitter to offer immediate help).

As for the month-long slump, it's an awfully good team that slumps to a little over four runs a game. For instance the Cubs would do well to improve to where the Reds have slumped to.

Lopez is striking out once ever 5.4 AB this season versus once ever 5.22 AB last season. Virtually no difference there. His power numbers are down because his power numbers are down. His Isolated Discipline numbers are up and that's good.

And in general less power and more patience would have been what you'd have expected from Felipe as he moved forward in his career.
