Sometimes things the Reds do or don't do are just plain tough to figure out. Mercker has now pitched about 10IP this season yet was not sent out to do a rehab before being activated. No one can be surprised that he has been knocked around in his two post DL appearances as he has struggled with command. Mercker even hinted at that last Wednesday where he made a comment his velocity was back but he wasn't sure about his command. Sure seems that a rehab stint last week would have been the wise play is his case.

Player's can deny RH stints, right?

I think that is true... perhaps there's a prerequisite for that though. Regardless, if it's true that they can, that rule should be changed. I think a club's management should have the power to make that decision.

That old arm only has a few throws left in it. Perhaps they didn't want to "waste" them in AAA.
