I was listening to an online broadcast of the El Paso Diablos a few years ago, and the crowd was chanting a seemingly incessant "We Want A Hit" while the Diablos were at bat. They had cheerleaders.

It was odd, and very annoying. I don't think I'd want that at a ballgame.

I wish baseball announcers would quit saying that the Reds started out as the Red Stockings and are the oldest franchise.

Probably not that great. I mean, if you play for Cincinnati, and you're last name isn't Griffey - its a long shot by default. I doubt anyone else in baseball, outside Phillips' first week were he was crushing the ball, have noticed his continous play.

The Cincinnati Red Stockings went defunct after 1870. Many of the players went to Boston, and became the Boston Red Stockings.

The Chicago White Stockings first season was 1870. (Both the Red Stockings and the White Stockings visited New Orleans Spring of 1870 to play local amatuer clubs. A local newspaper said that the play of the White Stockings left the play of the Red Stockings "completely in the shade."

I haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if mentioned this, but after one strikeout for Rusch, the catcher turned to the umpire and then tossed the ball into the dugout. They never mentioned anything on the board, but I check on baseball-reference.com and saw he finished last season with 961 K's, so I'm assuming that was his 1000th. Did they mention that one the radio?

Boy, the Reds looked good. When the one ball bounced over 1st base (was that Phillips?), I said, They're living right. Last month that would have bounced into the 1st baseman's glove.

And Yan pitched a good 9th inning.
