I watched the game on WGN last night and saw MR. RED in the stands, but no sign of Gapper. Has the new ownership sent Gapper to the minor leagues?

Man, I got excited when I saw this thread. I didn't get to go last night, so I thought maybe...

Well...as long as the Reds keep winning, I guess he can stay

Gapper's for the kids, I don't expect to see him on the tube representing the team as a "icon" like Mr. Red, expect to see him edged out of the spotlight and niched into kids only situations.

No, he's not toast, he's a mascot.

The kids like him. I'm not a huge fan, but I do like it when he interferes in the Reds Race from time to time. Dirty rascal.

I heard he maybe going away, Paris Hilton has the copyrights for "The Gapper".

Exactly! And the kids love him. He's furry, cuddly, and pays a lot of attention to them.

Little Team Griffey just loves him... and has a Gapper stuffed animal from Build-a-Bear.

Come on... leave Gapper alone. He's not for us anyway, and he gets the job done for our Reds kids.

I once saw Mr Red with us in the upper level as he was greeting kids. Just as he turned to leave the area, he turned into the isle bannister right in the crotch.

Kids had no clue what just happened but I would have LOVED to get that on video tape. You could tell her was seriously writhing but had to put on his gameface (no pun intended).

He slowly made his way up the stairs and out of there to apply ice no doubt.

Probably more than the batboy... I got $12 a game when I was with the clippers and the hours were like 4pm-12am on game days. H-o-r-r-i-b-l-e pay.

Many of those mascots are now females, especially at the minor league levels. I know the Richmond Rooster... she's a cutie.

I blame Ken Schnake. That guy is such a snake.

 The reason you didn't see Gapper was because he was being violated by a drunken Cubs fan under the stadium.

I don't know, Mr Red looks pretty scary to me. Like some sort of bloated alien with stitches.

"The thing about Mr Red, he's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he comes at you he doesn't seem to be livin'... until he bites you, and those black eyes roll over white."

I think Mr. Red was also responsible for New Coke.

Gapper on the other hand is nice to children and old people, brought back Coca Cola Classic and has that Sesame Street "would never hurt a fly" feel to him.

Mr. Red = Chupacabra?

Actually, I think Mr. Red looks like one of those '60s-'70s Japanese superheroes, like Ultraman or something like that. I could just imagine Mr. Red and Gapper duking it out over a miniature Tokyo.

Yeah he is making a couple of rehab starts with the Lookouts and then getting called up to replace Rick White.

When I was a toddler my Father took me to games all the time. I was terrified of him. I haven't been to GABP yet, but I am planning to attend at least one before I move the GA this summer. I will be bringing a wiffle ball bat and a can of mace.

I was about to write these exact words before TeamBoone beat me to it. I don't like Gapper for myself, but I like whatever makes my kids happy. Chill guys, he's harmless. One of the reasons baseball is the best is because the whole family can enjoy it. And his presence has enabled me to stay at the park another two innings more than once!
