And I can't stand Zambrano as much as anyone - but he pitched a darn good game. Hasn't he flirted with no-hitters twice in the last week or so?

Ok- we may lose two to the Cubs. It's not the end of the world folks.

My goodness - this team/organization has given us more reason for hope and optimism this year that most of us never expected.

We were 5 games back a week or so ago, and came right back to be be 1st.

we'll now possibly be 1 1/2 games out.

IMO - no one is gonna run away with this division

Fasten your seat belts.

But for cryin' out loud - everyone take a deep breath. ;)

Exacly, nobody said this was going to be easy.

it could but one can't make a logical argument against it. Instead all I see is an appeal to authority

Agreed.

You don't put a guy who has not proven himself in a situation like that. You go with a known quantity. If the Reds are to contend all season long, games like this have to be won. Putting Yan in was the at the top of the ignorance list. If you want to hold Narron blameless for this, then nothing is his fault including his lineups and maybe what he had for lunch.

Yan must be the new 7th inning guy

Nope that's Hammond. Of course, it's the same rotation out of the bullpen every night. The only reason it wasn't Hammond is that he's 100 years old and can't pitch on successive nights. :D

Win or lose tonight boys, there is A LOT of baseball to play this season. Claussen had a B+ start....all 5 starters are pitching good. I have faith that the management will get the bullpen better. We will be in the hunt for the wild card come Sept. 1st....that is a lot more than we expected.

Kearns?

I'd put Jr. at cleanup (best SLG on the team) and hit Dunn 3rd (best OB on the team) in front of him. Kearns could hit 5th. Then Hatteberg, then the catcher, then Aurilia (worst hitter vs. RHPs in the lineup).

Games like yesterday...have to be won. Zambrano pitched better than Claussen tonight.

I contend you have to win both games. Though Zambrano pitched better, we went into the 7th tied and a blown managerial move led to a big lead.

And let me say this...I like Narron a lot, but he just makes some really dumb decisions when the pressure is on. That's why I will say until someone censors me that he's a good manager but not good enough to take us to the next level--the playoffs.

Matt700wlw

Horrible and selfish AB by Rich there. He tried to yank both pitches over the wall in left and be the hero with Dunn on deck. I don't have as much of a problem with Jr swinging on the first pitch, although I didn't see the AB, but Rich's 1st order of business should have been to get Dunn up, especially with a guy that hasn't thrown consecutive strikes in 2 days. I totally agree with that. You're worried about saving him for the 9th when the game is on the line in the 7th or 8th? Ridiculous IMO.

But then I've always shown skepticism at this set closer role, as if it has to be one player, written in stone.

GAC
06-11-2006, 05:58 AM
Nope, if you read some of his comments the last few years (which you probably have) you would know that he is very selfish.

I didn't agree with some of the comments he made last year; but wanting to play, and thinking you can contribute (which he did last year) is not selfishness IMO.

If that is the case, then most players are selfish.

I've heard Freel, Lopez, Kearns, Pena, and others, in the past, complain about not getting the playing time they think they somehow deserved.

The reason Dunn is not at 1B is because he doesn't want to play there.

The reason JR is still in CF is because he wants to play there.

Are the above being selfish?
