I think it depends on who you are facing as a hitter. Zambronio could throw a strike at anytime. He did not want to pitch to Dunn or Jr. I would be more inclined to give a hitter a green light when I know the pitcher has better control and seems to have command of his pitches.

Last night is a perfect example when you needed to take pitches. Dempster was out of control, no command of his pitches. Phillips and especially Griffey needed to take more pitches...hell he could have thrown one in the dirt and tied the game. Poor hitting.

Just another reason to bash Narron.the role of the modern closer is simply a manifestation of people who don't have a proper understanding of the leverage of a given situation. I don't care what another manager would have done. All I know is the goal should be have your best relievers pitching the most important outs. The modern closer is a recent invention mainly of Larussa and there is little logic in it or any flexibility allowed in it's usage. No thinking outside the box is allowed.

My goodness - this team/organization has given us more reason for hope and optimism this year that most of us never expected.

We were 5 games back a week or so ago, and came right back to be be 1st.
