2) If David Ross is going to be our starting catcher, could we think about moving him UP in the lineup?

I'm talking strictly about my ability to watch the game. My wife likes to LaRue, so I get to go to or watch more games. When he's not in the lineup, I have to suffer thru the complaints about Narron needing to go back to North Carolina because he obviously doesn't know how to handle players, and that a slump can't be broken from the bench.

Has nothing to do with production. :) Though Ross is starting to cool.

Big guy (6'5"/220#) that doesn't throw hard; born in the home of Rolling Rock, Latrobe PA, pitched collegiately at Louisville, then transferred to Texas A&M. Rocketed through the minors in a year and change despite serving up more hits than innings pitched; relies on control and not giving up homers.

Aaron, like Claussen, seems totally unable to put away hitters anymore. His out pitches aren't outing.

Strikes me as a coaching problem maybe if it's happening to both Claussen AND Harang.

Harang has been racking up HUGE pitch counts in the early innings of games lately.

Or maybe this is all those long outings from earlier in the year catching up to Harang a bit -- though I'd tend to doubt that, since he showed last year that he's very capable of pitching deep into a season.

Pitchers slump too -- maybe Harang just isn't hitting his spots as crisply as he did earlier in the season. He'll work through it, if that is the case.

As this game fades away, I would simply point out that the Reds got one single yesterday and one single today so far. They hit for power very well but they lack the steady hitters who consistently get base hits.

I'm sure that there are students of baseball statistics who will tell me this is all irrelevant, but it seems important to me. This offense is totally dependent on walks and homers. The power is great, but you can't depend on walks to set the table. Sometimes the opposing pitcher will have good control.
