Imo, that is the best lineup that we can put out there, sans EdE being in there. That being said, time to right the ship today and get the "W"!

I'm really surprised Larue is not in the lineup today to catch Harang, especially with Arroyo pitching tomorrow. Just speculating here, but I feel Larue has done something to ruffle feathers more then just poor production at the plate.

Batting .174 will probably ruffle some feathers... I feel like Ross is playing his way into the starting line-up everynight... However, if and when he cools down, LaRue will be right back in there...

I don't want to see LaRue get buried all year though. That's going to make him pretty much untradable. I hate to see him ride the pine all year, and then be untradable, and the Reds have to nontender him. Actually, I forget if he's signed beyond this year.. if he's signed beyond this year, that's all the more reason to get him some playing time.

Which makes him expendable when another team is in dire need of a catcher. I don't think he'll be in a Reds uniform by the end of the season.

thanks for the memory jog.. We pretty much have to either play him or trade him soon, IMO of course.

Although maybe they are just going to ride Ross as long as they can. I don't expect him to keep up this pace, although we have to give him some credit for the pitching being so well this year.

Yeah, I'm beginning to wonder if the "possible soon trade" we hear about is LaRue for pitching.

Well, that's definitely a problem with LaRue not playing. He's worth a lot less than he was last winter when he signed that deal.

Still, a team that believes LaRue can snap out of it probably still sees him as an attractive acquision. LaRue has a pretty solid career resume. Actually, I think a smart team with some cash should try to steal LaRue from us. Not that they'd succeed, but now seems the perfect time to swoop in and take him from the Reds (As the Reds did to Cleveland with Phillips).

Unless a team like the Yankees, Red Sox, or a team with fat pockets that loses a catcher is willing to pay the rest of his contract, but if we can get a solid pitcher(whether it's relief or a starter) then it would be worth picking up. Cast has shown that he is willing to make sacrifices with cutting players such as Williams and Womack.

LaRue is off to a bad start, but he's a good player (unlike Williams/Womack).
IMO, we'd have no problem giving away LaRue and not having to pay any of his salary. The problem is that it would be nice to actually get something good in return. Hopefully LaRue gets more playing time soon to work out of this slump.

GG just said that Ozzie Guillen wore number 14 in honor of Dave Concepcion.

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember that story when Guillen came up as a rookie. If I recall, Guillen was traded to the White Sox from the Padres for a pitcher.. I think it was LaMarr Hoyt. Guillen was a pretty hyped up prospect, but never really was that great of a player.

Mays was on a roll, he looked untouchable. Perfect through two, and no one really made solid contact.

Edit: IIRC the ball didn't even leave the infield.

Well hopefully he gets healthy.. Or am I remembering wrong.. Didn't he have an injury this year?

I guess in hindsight though, I could kind of see giving Mercker a 2 year deal. There's just such little depth in our bullpen, and Lindner wasn't exactly generous with spending. When you have a guy like Merck who was coming off an effective year and wants to play here (fairly cheap too), I'm a little more willing to take a risk with an older pitcher.

Let's hope he can rebound. I still have more hope for him than White or Yan. Those two guys probably assure Mercker of a roster spot for awhile.
